November Project Board Search Update

Hello November Project World! It’s us, your friendly neighborhood Board Search Committee back for another round of updates about our brand new Board of Directors. The Committee has been hard at work the past couple months, and we’re in the final stages of solidifying who will serve as Board Members for the next two years.

After narrowing down our list of potential candidates that fit the areas of support and expertise we need (as described in our first Board update), we agreed on nine individuals to solicit for the first round. Co-founders Bojan and Brogan both served on November Project’s first Board, and after an anonymous vote by the Committee it was determined by majority rule that they would remain on the Board for another term, and they have happily agreed. The November Project bylaws indicate that we can have a maximum of 11 people on the Board (and a minimum of three), and with Bojan and Brogan already taking two spots, we decided to reach out to the maximum number of individuals, which is how we arrived at nine.

We are now in the process of reaching out to the first round of candidates. Based on their responses, we’ll move to the next round of candidates, and so on. We divided up solicitations of the candidates, and all solicitors have three documents for their conversations with candidates:

– The November Project Board Member Expectations and Responsibilities
– The November Project Bylaws
– The November Project Conflict of Interest Policy

We felt that it was important to have these documents at the ready for conversations with candidates so they have as much information upfront as possible.

As of January 31 at 2:28pm, six candidates have accepted our offer to serve on the Board, which we are downright thrilled about! Who said you can’t be pumped about building a Board!?! This brings our current Board Member total to eight, including Bojan and Brogan. One of the candidates we asked is still considering, and two candidates said they did not have bandwidth to serve at this time.

We are currently reevaluating our list of candidates and the missing areas of expertise, and as a Committee we will decide who to reach out to for our remaining 2 or 3 vacancies. While we are not necessarily committed to having 11 people on the Board, we feel that the more voices, communities, specialties, and people represented on the Board, the stronger it will be. Regardless of the total number, it will be an odd number for voting purposes.

Once the entire Board has been formed, we will post another public blog that includes the names of the new Board Members, their photos, bios, and the reason why each member was selected by the Search Committee. This information will also be posted publicly on our website. Ideally this will be released in the next two weeks, based on how soon we hear from our final candidates.

Thank you for being invested in this process with us! We are excited to watch this new Board take November Project into a new era and help it to become the best it can be. As always, if you have comments or questions feel free to submit them through the feedback form on November Project’s website.

Onward and upward!
