Bridge Month – Workout Highlights!

WEEK 1 – Corktown Footbridge

Remember Zoom workouts? Yeah, we do too. BRIDGE MONTH IS BETTER.

We kicked things off in style at the Corktown footbridge. Working in teams of 3, you lunged, you push-upped, you dipped, you burpee-d, and you ran up and down that ramp…

…and look how happy you were afterwards!

WEEK 2 – Flora Footbridge

Week 2 brought us on a bridge hunt… we weren’t scared… but we did have to take a ramp on account of the stairs being closed.

Plus, for those of you who thought that spatulas belonged in the kitchen… Well, you are technically correct, but they also work great as workout props when you write random exercises on them. Add some matching colours and boom, you’ve got yourself a perfect partner party. Party favours included Hoisties, partner push-ups, partner toe-taps, partner sit-ups, tango lunges, and back to back squat holds with a rotation (that was admittedly slightly confusing for some, but you figured it out).

Instead of a picture of spatulas, here’s a sweet shot of the Flora Footbridge in the early morning moonlight.

WEEK 3 – Alexandra Bridge

You know the expression, we’ll cross that bridge when we get there? Well, this week we may have crossed the bridge slightly more than we bargained for.

Two partners met in the middle of the bridge, picked a workout move, then ran back to their respective sides to complete it. Then ran back to the middle. Picked another exercise. Then ran back to their side. Then back to the middle. Then… yeah… it was a lot of running. Woohoo!

WEEK 4 – Adawe Bridge

Given the ongoing, err, discussion regarding the efficacy of Ottawa’s public transport system, we thought we’d explore some alternative means of transportation:

  • Running (yep, we’ve done that)
  • Walking while giving out high 5s (sure, easy enough)
  • Lunging (not the most efficient, but a good workout for sure)
  • Bunny hops (a bit faster than the lunges, but my calves are broken)
  • Leapfrog (people seemed alarmed when they were jumped over unannounced)
  • Piggy back (I guess this is one way to carpool?)
  • LRT (still less reliable than leapfrogging to work)

And just like that, bridge month 2023 came to an end. But don’t worry, we’ve got a few fun things in store for February…

Positivity Award

The Positivity Award has been in good hands for quite some time  (thanks, Josh!), and it was finally time for those good hands to pass it along to another well deserving member of our community…

Meet… Alison!

Odds are you’ve seen this smiling face around over the last year! Alison has been a consistent member of the community, pushing the pace, setting the example, and generally making NP Ottawa a more welcoming place to be. Congratulations, Alison – we’re glad you’re here!
