Another month gone, another four weeks of training behind us. And Wednesday is our opportunity to show what these four weeks have done for our hearts, legs, and minds.
Sometimes when I show up to PR Day, I plan on taking it easy. I get it into my head that I’m “still sore from yesterday”, that I’m “not going to PR because the past month has been busier than usual”, that I’m “just so tired” and that the “early mornings have started piling up”. But as soon as I arrive at The Calling and see all of the tribe, my emotions and the adrenaline gets the best of me. I can’t help but push myself when I’m working with everyone else, suffering with everyone else… celebrating with everyone else.
There’s a magic that surrounds PR Day – something within us that begs to be proven. Even when we show up grumpy and “unprepared”, the persistence of other people is inspiring enough to push us to work harder. The only thing that matters on PR Day is persistence, determination, and grit.
The number of laps is trivial.
Your finishing time is trivial.
Whether you PR’ed or not? Trivial.
Never settle into the frustration that can plague you when your legs aren’t working the way they should. Settle into the grit that flows from one runner/walker/crawler to the next. Drink in the determination of your peers and PR Day as hard as you can.
