Today’s work out, destination and blogspiration is brought to you by Country Grammer (AKA Julia from St. Louis, home of Nelly the creator of chart topping album Country Grammar). Somehow somewhere the correct spelling of grammar got lost in translation through midwest accents and such. Without further ado, we got extra credit from a kickass workout today:
If there’s anything I love more than November Project, it’s Denver. But that’s a BIG if. So when M&D (Molly&Dan / Mom&Dad) offered up the reins for tribe members to choose a new park destination and plan a work out, I did what I normally do in situations like this… got overly-excited and immediately planned at least 8 different workouts and locations, thought of hashtags (#FubuFriday), and made a Spotify playlist. There are over 200 parks in this city (seriously) and I wouldn’t mind exploring each and every one of them with the tribe. Can I get 200 verbals from anyone?
I ultimately decided on one park, though – Commons Park – for its location right between my two favorite pedestrian bridges and its proximity to Denver Beer Co, just in case we were thirsty at 7 am. The playlist was inspired by FUBU, the illustrious clothing brand that “left the US market” in 2003. Because at #NP5280 Fridays are For Us By Us, we only listened to tunes from 2003 and earlier. Fashion and music were both at their prime in the early 2000s, if you ask me.
For the workout, we got partners and did stuff for four minutes; the highest number of reps completed within the pairs decided how long the group got to rest for before the next set. Example: 82 reps of leg throws = 82 seconds of rest. Then we got new partners and did different stuff and rested minimally again, and repeat. Everyone was looking damp by the end, but I’m not sure if it was because I made them sweat or because I made them lay in wet grass.
This morning was great because there’s nothing not good about hanging out and working out with your friends on a Friday. Thanks to M&D and the rest of the tribe for always keeping it real and for being awesome humans. Finding November Project made me realize the one thing I had been missing here in my favorite city – a kickass community that inspires and excites me, makes me laugh, pushes me to work hard, and feels like family.
xoxo,
Julia
