Goals – Part III (YEG)

Seems fitting that I stick with the theme of goals for this first week of January.

Thanks Nadim for reminding us to set our vision first, determine our why, and then sets goals that will move us in the direction of that vision. Also key, is ensuring that we are willing to be flexible, to be open to changing our goals as the path to our vision may need to detour as life presents us with unexpected adventures.

Thanks Andrew for challenging us to set goals that scare us a little. Commit to goals that feel out of reach at the moment, ones that might even take more than one attempt to get there. The main thing is taking the leap. You don’t have to know “the how” yet, you just need a target and then you can make the plan for how to hit it!

I don’t know what other words of wisdom I can offer. In fact, I don’t even know what goals I want to set for 2018. There are a lot of things I want to do this year. I want to take time for my family. I want to listen to my body and value rest days as much as I value sweat days (a great way to stay injury free). I want to revel in my first and likely only Boston Marathon experience. I want to say yes to new experiences and be willing to say no when my plate is full. I want to eat healthily and cut down on sugar. I want to be intentional in ensuring that people feel valued and connected in all spaces of my life; at NP, at school, at Run Collective, etc. I want to do a lot. I want to continue to run but also get out on my bike more often, lift weights, and get back into the pool (will be necessary since I have registered for a triathlon this year). To me, these are not goals but rather commitments. Commitments that I am making to myself, my family, and my community. These are my intentions for the year.

Goals…I am still not sure. The great thing is that there’s not a deadline for setting goals. They can be set anytime!

So great seeing everyone out on the hill today! I love the push, camaraderie, frosty faces, and foggy glasses – the tribe is committed! 2018 – we’re ready for you!!
