Evacuation Plan: Escape Florence [VB]

We Made It!!

Virginia Beach hurricane Florence evacuation plan: travel as far as you can to the middle of the country for the hypest gathering of free fitness badasses from around the world. We may have had to change our flights or drive over 15 hours, but we made sure we wouldn’t miss this years annual November Project Summit 6.0 in Milwaukee Wisconsin. The VB crew rolled in 12 deep, missing two stranded friends (sorry Emily & Herb; we missed your asses like crazy) and we’re ready to show the NP world that, “Yes, there REALLY is a tribe in Virginia Beach”.

The local Milwaukee tribe planned some killer workouts and socials, not to mention the local hospitality. Thank you to Mike Olive that was kind enough to host a few of our last minute early arrivals. (I mean like Ritz Carlton style: breakfast bars on the beds).  Arriving at the Friday workout, sun rising over the water, hundreds of likeminded humans standing ready to offer hugs and high fives, a wave of instant goosebumps spread. The Summit virgins experienced something you can’t put into words. Kinda don’t want to sound like a prick, but really, you had to be there!

That Sunrise Though

The father of Milwaukee, Roger, started this thing off just right with a bounce for the ages. Did you see it? Go look that shit up now on our FB page.  We then made a new friend (partner) and traveled the adult playground of O’Donnell Park crushing some Flying Dutchmen, Booty & Thangs, Stanks, and Stairs. Finishing strong with a round of Dirtina’s, we had a workout like no other. We took our tired glutes and biceps to the largest Coffee meetup Collectivo has probably ever seen.

The afternoon was filled with an intense battle of the ancient art of sandcastle building for the first and last ever event of its kind. Using only hands and coffee cups, teams created Summit 6.0 logos, lake monsters and the championship rendition of #fakebojan (it was good)! That night a few hundred, clothed in grassroots gear, invaded Miller Park for some classic American baseball fun.

Team 8  –   3rd Place Masterpiece (Jill’s Team)

Saturday morning, caravans of runners arrived at Kettle Moraine Park dressed in their best team novelty wear ready to throw the hammer down for some #raceeverthing kind of trail competition. Fake Corporate leaders strapped on fake baby Lumi’s, Sharpied local tattoo art on pasty thighs, and readied themselves for the marathon ahead. Teams worked hard all day through the heat and miraculously all crossed the road into transition without going over the roof of a car. (Seriously that road guys?!?) The podiums we’re filled at the end of the day with some fast cats and local badasses that crowd surfed their way into the night. Sunday was no day to sleep in, as the boss Bojan, made his long awaited comeback into the land of the racers!  5k, 10k and half marathon runners finished the weekend out with a podium sweep of November Project awesomeness.

Team NP Virginia Beach

Saturday night’s social, and the hush hush Dry Run (You REALLY had to be there) were the perfect ending to a unforgettable weekend. New friendships were made, laughs were shared, and there is a renewed love in this crazy thing we do called November Project.

Thank you to the good people of Milwaukee for being such gracious hosts & the bosses for starting this incredible movement over six years ago. As always we extended a HUGE thank you to our friends at The North Face for making these events possible.

If you missed out, I hope the FOMO was real. But we promise, we’ll do it again next year. And you bet your asses Virginia Beach will be there.
