Wow that year went by fast.
A year ago this week, a bunch of us met up at the Lake Merritt Boating Center in the East Bay to try out some free fitness. With an abundance of creativity, we called this little group activity East Bay Free Fitness.
The rest is history. New people showed up every week, we started running stairs every last Wednesday of the month, we became November Project Oakland, Amanda Blauvelt designed an awesome tree tag, we started competing for the Golden Shoe with November Project San Francisco, we welcomed the rest of November Project Planet Earth to the Bay for an #optinside weekend during the California fires, and we all built something truly local, energetic, and fun in Oakland.
This morning, we took the opportunity to revive some classic NP Oakland burnouts. A little Cha Cha Squat-n-Slide, a little Ghostbusters, a little Mr. Brightside (Alex insisted), and a little Baby Shark. Kudoes to Allie and Hadar for suggesting the idea; next time we’ll make you two lead the dancing.
In recognition of all he’s done for NPSF, NP_Oak, and November Project at large, this morning we were also overjoyed to give Nathan Fisher the Positivity Award. Nathan helps organize #rungang, helps corral the #fastfirstgraders (formerly the #kindergartenkrew), and helps us all keep a smile on our faces while we’re running around on Wednesday mornings. It’s hard to imagine a more deserving figure to take care of the Oar Handle for a few weeks.
- TAM SLAM: Some members of NP Oak are organizing a glamping retreat at Mt. Tamalpais later this month. Register here if you’re interested!
- Recruiting month: Next month, February, will be Recruiting Month. Get ready.
