Early Schmearly (YWG)

Days like today really cause me to pause and reflect about how truly lucky I am. This morning when I got out of bed it was still middle-of-the-night, trip-over-your-dog dark out. That shit is never fun, whether its -40 or +30. It sucks. Its hard. The only reason i’m able to do it is because I think about all the of you – the 150+ loyal tribe members that are going through the same thing, then I silently laugh to myself that you’re all in as much pain as I am, and it makes it a little bit easier. And then I remember how much I like you guys, feel sorry for laughing, and drag my ass up to come see all your faces and remember why Wednesday mornings are just the best.

As I stood at the back of the group taking pictures of all your booties, the sun started rise over the Provencher Bridge.  It was a truly glorious moment, to see all of your sweaty smiles with the sun just peaking up over the horizon, glistening and shining over all of your faces and reflecting directly in to my eyes from Toms head.  The Forks is a truly magical place on Wednesday morning because each and every one of you kicks that sucky get out of bed feeling in the face and comes to hang out with the tribe, and we’re all better people because you made that decision.

So next time you are telling someone (let’s call her Shirley; maybe she happens to be your Aunty, maybe not.  That has absolutely no relevance to this blog post so i’m not really sure why you asked?) about this wicked awesome Wednesday-morning family you have stumbled across and they tell you that 6:14 am is way to early, present them with a challenge.  Challenge them to think of the last time they watched the sun rise over one of the most beautiful landmarks in our city.  Challenge them to wake up and change the paradigm of what it means to get fit, because as you all figured out this morning, this is more about having fun than anything else. Fitness, friends, relationships (maybe?? anyone??), that all comes second and you won’t even realize its happening.  And then you can say with conviction: Early Smchearly, Aunty Shirley. (I knew it was relevant somehow…).

And with today’s Positivity award we’ve got my man Ivan.  Ivan has been showing up consistently with the tribe all summer, and puts in work like no one else with the most giantest smile for everyone he passes.   Thanks for your infectious enthusiasm, your high fives, and your all around bad-ass niceness. Keep up the good work, new found friend!

No announcements.  Rick is flying away on a jet plane for a little while to go swim, bike, and run for an obscene amount of time so Tom is flying solo… I will miss you all dearly and i’ll be thinking about lunges to St B with longing on the final leg of this race thing I apparently paid to do.
