Be like Rod.

Do you ever watch a movie that has no hidden meanings or life advice and think, wow, I wish that I had spent my time on something more impactful? Don’t you fret anymore – we are diving deep into some stupid movies that you thought had no thought-provoking content and relating it to PR day.

Just Show Up: A Father’s Day Message From Your Dad

This is a reflection on Summit written by Your Dad, Roger Huffman:

November Project. What is it? What does it mean? This is a question I have been called upon to answer many times. My answer is always a little bit different. Those who have been to a workout can tell you that it is more than just a workout, even if they cannot put a finger on the reasons why. You just walk away feeling good and sometimes it is downright inexplicable. This is something Christine has dug into in these blogs week in and week out. There are many ways to try to explain this movement. It is hard to capture exactly what November Project is because I am not sure anyone truly knows. It is bigger than all of us, and it is so damn good! read more

We Are Wild (5ummit Thoughts)

5ummit weekend juxtaposed the new and the old.

The new: Water bottles. Calf cramps. Full tour PRs. Friends from other tribes. Friends from your own tribe. Tattoo tan lines.

The old: Harvard Stadium. The Mothership tribe. The NU Boathouse. Sara Wild.

The weekend consisted of moments, combining to become a three-day lifetime of growth for the co-leaders and the tribe members. Moments where your arm hair rose, your heart beat a little faster, your legs shook a little more than usual, your eyes welled up and emptied. Moments where in a tight hug from a stranger, you sensed that they could feel it too – the “it” that defines our movement’s existence. The “it” that wasn’t originally intended or possibly imagined. The “it” that started in Boston, and just now was validated through the thousands that gathered on these historic grounds. read more

FRIDAY PARKING & Transportation Info for Summit 5.0

Q: WHERE DO I PARK? A: OPEN this Google Map

HOW DO I GET TO THE STADIUM? HOW DO I GET AROUND?

If you find yourself asking these questions, let’s thank our local transportation guru Ari Ofsevit for compiling the following info.  Read as much or as little as you want (it gets really fucking detailed down at the bottom, and in the middle, and pretty much everywhere) but definitely read the part about parking for the Friday morning workout at Harvard.  And give yourself LOTS of extra time to get to the stadium.   read more

The Sounds of #NPSUMMIT Weekend

This email serves as a pre-thanks to the two DJ’s who are going to be holding it down for the NPSUMMIT. Number one is local legend Laura Ingles of Boston. Number two is new-kid-on-the-block and Co-Leader of November Project Virginia Beach Barry Clark. Laura will host the rise & shine beatdown inside the Harvard Stadium that will open the weekend early Friday morning and Barry will bring down the house at The Lawn On D Street on Saturday night, which will close the weekend. If you’re thinking, “I don’t know much about all of this that you speak of, this “N..P.. Summit” and I really wish I could click here and find out more details.” I hope that you go back and click there. If you already know what’s up, continue onward/below. read more

PRe-PR Thoughts

We at November Project try to remain positive all the time (which usually isn’t possible). But Will Bott described PR Day best, when he said “I positively hate PR Day.” PR Day is the bane of our existence. The whole tribe and the earth below them groans when the last week of the month rolls around. Stairs and running. That’s it. Maybe mix in a few tears. But the beauty of PR Day is not in the running of it – it doesn’t really look beautiful, more painful than anything – the beauty lies in the last moments of the workout, when you’re blazing into a tunnel made by the sweaty biceps and forearms of all of your friends. A rogue butt tap makes the 30 minutes of effort worth it; so does adding your new personal record to the tracker, and finding out that you were 8th overall. PR Day is that annoying friend that you’ve known since third grade, and even though they call you out for your sh!t, you love them because they’re always there for you. read more

PR DAY BABAY!

We asked you to send a message to rogerisyourdadwastaken@gmail.com and to write a 100 word or less submission describing your best/worst/most exhausting PR Day experience. As a little sneak peek of the larger compilation of PR Day memories (memorials?), here is one post we received: read more

Graduation Inspiration

All of your MKE co-leaders are now college graduates. Here are their words of wisdom to you as you pursue future goals:

“Never drink coffee without a toothbrush handy. Two hour-old coffee breath is no joke.” Daniel Graham

“I wish I could stop my dance moves from being so great. Once you find something that makes you feel like king of the world, you’ll feel the same way.” Roger Huffman read more

Primates, Bananas, and Normal People. Oh My!

Important news on this Monday. The Tribe has spoken. It is official. The majority of the MKE Tribe is normal, average, commonplace, standard, orderly, traditional, routine. But the fringe groups are mighty weird.

Figure 1: Pie chart of tribe responses to the question “How do you open a banana?” The dark blue slice indicates Like a normal person, light blue indicates Like a primate, green indicates I am a banana, orange indicates Bananas are evil, and red indicates Other (please describe in the comments). Yes, I made this pie chart in Matlab.

According to the very official NP MKE Social Page, 38% of the tribe opens a banana “Like a normal person”, 16% of the tribe are bananas (according to the response “I am a banana”), 8% of the tribe thinks “Bananas are evil”, and 3% responded with “Other (please describe in the comments)” to which the description was “Squeeze vigorously from one end until the banana rips out of its peel on the other end. Be prepared.” Hmm… read more
