Buckle Up For the Bear

November Project NYC has a few traditions that are just EPIC every year, and one of them is coming up in just a few short weeks. The North Face Endurance Challenge Series  rolls into Bear Mountain State Park on May 5-6, and it is an absolutely must-do event. The entire weekend is a trail racing festival with races at every distance from 5k to 50 miles. On Saturday are the longer distances, starting with the 50 miler, 50k, marathon, and marathon relay. On Sunday they race the half marathon, 10k, and 5k. The trails at Bear are fantastic. They are challenging, with steep uphills, rocky downhills, and all sorts of other fun stuff in between. But don’t let that scare you off, this is an event that you won’t want to miss.

The North Face puts on an awesome race festival, and Saturday is the best day of the weekend.  You can find November Project members from all over (Boston, DC, Baltimore, etc. etc. etc.) it’s a party on the race grounds where you get to meet and hang out with members of November Project Corporate as well as members from other tribes. Sierra Nevada is there, making sure you can wet your whistle post race. It is an awesome day to get out of the city and enjoy some nature, with awesome company.

I know what you are thinking, “Rob, I can’t run an ultra right now (I’m not Mary), why would I want to go on Saturday?” I have a solution for you: find 3 friends, pick a theme, and run the marathon relay. They say teamwork makes the dreamwork, and this is your opportunity to take advantage of that. People go all out on the themes so don’t hold back. This is one of the most fun days in the calendar year for November Project NYC/BK and I promise, if you sleep on it, you will be missing out.

So now that we have convinced you to go, because it’s AWESOME, you may be thinking: HOW are you getting there? While the Metro North will get you close (the Manitou station is 3 miles away) a better call would be to sign up for the bus to Bear Mountain. For a modest, tbd (but less than $10) cost. The bus is a blast as well, it’s like you are in grade school again, riding the bus with your best friends, in anticipation of a super awesome, super fun day.

O yea, and lets not forget about the (Cue Usher Voice)  After Party. We pick out a secret location bar when we get back to the city for adult beverages, probably a dancing competition between Jason and Sierra, and only time will tell what else.
