WE (the leaders) were handed a task from corporate. You are going to see a lot of amazing photos in your social media feeds. You are going to read a lot of amazing stories that go along with those photos. These are photos and stories of amazing people who pour themselves into this movement. Please take the time to read their stories, learn their reasons why they #justshowup, get inspired, and get outside!
BLOOD It comes from the heart. The passion, the drive, the pride; they all come from within us. As a leader, we take this shit seriously. It is literally a part of us (see right arm). This movement, the tribe, everything; we have poured ourselves into this because it’s been there for us on our best and worst days. I am forever grateful for what I have received from this movement and will forever give back my 100%. I will defend it. I will protect it and the people who are a part of it. Richard once referred to me as a “Mama Bear”. I’ll take it. The people who are in my life because of November Project are my friends and family. I would do anything for them. They are my blood. From the bottom of my heart, I am truly blessed for being where I am. I will continue to put my heart and soul into this – this isn’t just a workout; this is a community, a fascinatingly weird awesome fierce community.
SWEAT It pours out of me. I know I just said it’s not just a workout, but it’s based around a workout. (Gimme a break) This community has some tough ass people, fast AF people, hella strong people. Every single person that comes out, gives us their 100% and it shows. Gasping for air, dripping with sweat, leaving wet butt prints on the ground. These are your badges of honour. My favourite thing is hearing “I just signed up for my first race”. FUCK YEAH YOU DID! I love hearing “I DIDN’T STOP ON THE HILL!”, “I PR’D!!” , “COME ON, I’LL RACE YA!!” Never have I seen a group of people push one another, support and cheer for each other all in the same place. It’s pretty phenomenal. It’s also pushed me out of my comfort zone and I don’t regret a thing (no matter how much I bitch about training and all the new aches and pains). Look at Richard… He’s RUNNING now. He’s literally evolved from a swimmer into a runner… and he teaches science … well, that’s ironic. He apparently doesn’t sweat. I’m sweating right now … actually, I’m leaking awesome out of my pores.
TEARS Oh, the tears. My favourite tears are happy tears. The I-laughed-so-hard-I’m-crying tears. There are so many weird, funny people out there; it’s stupendous! I love it! And this is what peaked my FOMO, not the workout, the people. The quirky people who said or did quirky things and I didn’t want to miss those moments. Those moments are priceless and well, laughing until I snort is kinda my thing and I love it. Other happy tears happen when your tribe surprises you with a coloured picture of a crab that everyone signed for your birthday. Happy tears are when your tribe puts together a 20-minute video filled with lovely messages from people near and far. Happy tears are when other leaders send you snail mail… Now, the “other” tears… The heartbreaking moments of loss, injury, defeat, sadness, frustration. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows and we get that, more than you know. However, we are always here for you. 49 cities strong.
WE do this for the love of it. To see you grow, to push you, to create a safe place, to laugh, to cry, to high five, to hug, to race, to be unapologetically you. WE are a reflection of our tribes because without you, there would be nothing.
THE TRIBE IS STRONG.
