As much as I can complain and as much as I understand it’s importance, I still find it funny how my opinion of the cold white stuff can change. This time last year i was likely dreading the layers of clothes I would need to go outside and yet this year I miss it. I miss that soft crunchy feeling under foot. I miss the brighter nights because our buildings/street lights would reflect off the white snowy surfaces. I miss how quiet it can be during a fresh snowfall. I don’t miss being cold but I can tolerate that haha. I am looking forward to snow sticking around.

Crowd Surf (YEG)
Sometimes it is just fun to to do something we don’t normally do. The NP crowd surf is this elusive Happy Birthday tradition of hoisting a community member, and pushing them along over our heads as we sing happy birthday. Actually written out like that it’s pretty weird if you didn’t have any context but still, it’s fun. The crowd surf is not something we can do for every birthday, logistically it would be a lot and honestly being touched by a bunch of people, is not for everyone haha. Sometimes it happens with a simple ask and sometimes it is just random. I say this because if you have celebrated a birthday with us and you weren’t crowd surfed know that it was not a conscious choice or decision. What I love about the crowd surf is the joy and excitement people have. This is not a normal activity for anyone, so to see people’s faces light up makes me so happy. Big kodos to the people doing the hoisting and the pushing. We might all do fitness things but it can be a bit intimidating when the time comes to hold some up in the air.

Vibes (YEG)
Sometimes, no matter who is there, the feeling of a workout just clicks. To me the workout today was about being happy that we were there together. We all chose to get up and put the work in. We could have done it later in the day, we could have done it on our own, but no we chose to do this together. This thinking is tried-and-true but what was different today was a feeling of a little swagger. Everyone there, new or not, knew that we were there to get the job done. We are weatherproof, we are of any age, we are of any fitness level, we are November Project, we are Edmonton. The best of what it means have fitness in our lives. Without the need to pay or be shamed we have the drive and swagger to put in the work. I am proud of today and I am proud of you who chose to show up. I hope you are proud of yourself too because you did it and you will continue to.

🚂🍑 (YEG)
There is something to be said about the satisfaction of doing hard shit. I always say that I do these things because I want to continue doing them when I am 90. On a scale like that it can be easy to get a little complacent so a workout like today is great. Put your head down and do the work, 20seconds on 10seconds off, and we’ll see you on the other side 30mins later.

Still in Awe (YEG)
We’ve had to keep this under wraps for awhile but an amazing thing happened this weekend. Some members of our community put forward an application for a Lieutenant Governor’s leadership award and this weekend Jen, Nadim, Lazina, and I were able to accept it while in Lake Louise. It is hard to put into words what this community has done for everyone involved but this life altering group wouldn’t be possible without those who choose to #JustShowUp. An award like this may not change what the next workout is going to be but it is a testament to the amazing people who strive to make this community great over the last +10 years.
