Ari has had a helluva year. A near death Boston Marathon. Lots of running. Living in a brand new city (Chicago) for the summer. More trail running. International travel. Interstate bike rides in insane heat just to go to a brewery. And he’s still going. This was a long post and I may or may not have read the whole thing but I do trust Ari. That is one huge amazing thing I have gotten to know about him. He loves & bleeds NP. He makes us better. All of us. His dedication & love for our community is amazing. So pull up fancy chair, put on the sport coat and monocle. Pour yourself a nice cup of tea or vino and enjoy this helluva story. – Andy

And now Ari’s story
So the longer story …
In January, I went up to a cabin in New Hampshire for a weekend. The cabin is used by the association of former employees of the Appalachian Mountain Club‘s hut system, which in some respects is like November Project:
- It’s physical work for little or no pay (okay, it’s more than a bag of North Face gear, but not that much more).
- The “croos” often dress up in outrageous, brightly-colored costumes.
- It’s very #weatherproof (shoveling compost in an ice storm ftw)
- There are hills involved.
- A conversation between two such members uses enough jargony words that an outsider would have trouble understanding.
- This means that if there’s a group of us conversing it can be a bit alienating to any poor outsider who happens to be there.
Sound familiar? (If anyone is ever looking for a summer/early-fall job for a couple of months, let me know. The pay is low, but the view from the office is excellent.) read more
