A bit unsteady

I’ve been a bit off lately. And I haven’t talked about it too much (I don’t think).

A couple of months ago, someone tried to break into our home. It was a Tuesday night at about 10:40pm. Of course, I was already fast asleep. It was a NP night!

It was my husband who was still awake and almost encountered a bad person trying to invade our home.

I can’t believe all the things he did in such a short, terrifying period of time.

Yes, hubs was scared. He thought quickly (I have no idea how). He saw red. He got ready to defend (thank goodness he didn’t have to).

I say I can’t believe it because…. I slept through the whole thing. I’m not joking.

I always pride myself on being a great sleeper and well…. I am.

Since that terrifying **almost** incident, I haven’t settled.

I wasn’t even the one who went through anything!

Thought we’ve taken many steps to feel safe and secure, my sleep hasn’t returned to normal. I sometimes feel a bit jumpy at bedtime.

I started following this IG account a while ago and it’s come to mind a few times as I’ve been trying to get myself back to feeling like me. Now, I’m not promoting anything here but rather trying to keep in perspective that many others around the world have an actual lack of safety… and it’s forced some of them to flee from their homes. I get that it’s ok to feel what we went through and not try to minimize it but I think I cope by relating to others and acknowledging that many people – globally – aren’t in a position/situation to call the police, install more home safety measures, have a big husband who will defend the home (that’s a joke… you can smirk), seek support from family/friends, etc.

Anyhow, when something not great happens, I usually zoom out and look at the bigger picture. Though I’ve been a bit tired lately, I sure am glad to be safe.

And yes, my husband deserves a superhero cape.

Way to push through today’s NP city visit of burnout songs. I’m sure I’ll be burned out tomorrow!
