Community of Leaders

One of the best things about our November Project Philly crew is that there is a culture around leading together that is actively encouraged among the group. Below are a few of the faces, among the many more we want to highlight, that have taken on leadership roles within the NP Philly community.

Welcome to Leadership Katie!

When Katie moved to Philly from San Francisco where she was a member of NP SF, she wasted no time making her presence felt in the NP Philly community. Not too long after she arrived in Philly, Katie along with a few other members, helped organize an early miles type “Run Pool”, a run crew that would start in Fairmount and pick people up along the way en route to the Friday workout. As a supporter of the bicycle coalition, a musical theatre enthusiast, and an advocate for civic engagement in her neighborhood, Katie has brought a ton of passion, energy, fun, and excitement to the group while also exuding leadership within the community and we are so excited to have her!!!!!!!!!!! 🚴🏽‍♀️#WhenItBurns

Bye Bye Bela-fly!

For a 2nd consecutive week, NP Philly is saying good-bye to a core member of the group – Bela Delvadia, as she is moving to Northern California to continue her journey in the medical field. For those who dont know, Bela has been quite the leader when it comes to growing community and inviting new faces into the November Project group. During her time at NP Philly she has helped to keep a group of Drexel students accountable to Just Showing Up. So while she will be sorely missed, we will be simultaneously wishing her the best in her transition, and excited to see who steps up to continue leading the charge among Drexel students!!

Sammy Stepping Up!

Speaking of stepping up, you may have noticed a new beaming face behind the camera recently. If you dont know Sammy Choy, well, you should! Sammy will be the first to tell you that the transition into a role of responsibility, leadership and ownership can be a vulnerable and intimidating one – especially when you care so much about the community you want to serve. Whether or not you are coming to NP Philly for the first time, coming to coffee, hosting a social, or taking pictures for the first time – it is super important that we elevate, motivate, and support each other along the way because its YOU ALL that show up and step up that have kept this thing going for over 8 years. In encouraging people to take ownership, and lead together we can continue to keep this thing going long after any of us move on. When you get a chance to see Sammy behind the lens, strike a pose 💃🏽🕺🏽, show her some love🗣️🙏🏽 and remember to always #PhotoCred📸. So glad you are here Sammy!!!!!

Seember Stepping Down!

You cannot talk about leadership within the November Project Philly community without mentioning Seember Ityokumbul. There are many words to say here, but we will save them for its own post at a later time. The main thing is that you clear your calendars and #JustShowUp on Wednesday, May 25th for Seembers final workout as a beloved co-leader of NP Philadelphia. Its a mixed bag for sure, as we are so excited for her new life in Ohio with her partner, and to have had the opportunity to be with her and led by her. Yet with all that said we will miss her dearly. 😢 So over the next 2 weeks make sure to inundate Seember with as much love as you can muster and lets make her send off an epic one!!!!

Black Owned Business Crawl – May 21st at 11am

Saturday May 21st beginning at 11am November Project Philly will be collaborating with local Black Owned Businesses for an event filled with fitness, connection, community and storytelling. The 4.5 mile run through the city will feature a handful of business owners who will spend a little time talking about their stories, journeys, and businesses with the hope of fostering connection and sparking curiosity that would ultimately encourage increased visibility, appreciation and active support for Black owned businesses in our community. The event will begin at 11am at REC Philly which is located inside of the Fashion District by 9th and Market near the Burlington coat factory, and the run will end at Baby Buns inside of the Bourse for a quick bite around 3pm. For itinerary and details check out the FB Event Page. All paces are welcome, just Come As You Are. This will be a casual fun run and a great way to connect within the community. Please RSVP at this link if you can so we can have a rough idea of what the attendance might be. If you are not able to come, please invite anyone you can, and spread the word. This event is open to the public.

Mural Miles Alert!!!! Saturday 5/14 at 9am

(Information Copied from Mural Miles IG Post)

“Join [Mural Miles] tomorrow in celebrating Asian Pacific Heritage Month as they team up with OPAC (Original Propaganada Athletic Club) and run in solidarity with China Town Runners. This months murals are all either painted by Asian American artists, or speak to themes of immigration which explore the cultural richness of Philly’s Asian American community.” In acknowledgement of Mental Health Awareness month the run will also be started off with a breathing and stretching exercise led by Becca Curry, and there will be an after party and social at Paris Baguette (923 Arch St) after the run. Please bring cash if you would like to support small businesses in Chinatown post-run. Also if you would ever like to volunteer to assist with these monthly runs please reach out to Craig Oppenheimer, as the help would be greatly welcomed and appreciated as this is quickly becoming a popular event each month in our city.

Have a great weekend Philly!!! See ya’ll Wednesday!!! Thanks for being here and reading!!😁
