How great is it when you get a random text message from a friend? It may be just a check in to see how things are going, maybe a joke, or a “remember when your dumbass did _____?” (Preston gets those a lot). This simple act can be all that it takes to transform a crappy day, and turn it around for an individual. Just knowing that someone took the time to reach out to you and was thinking about you is a game changer.
Well, this is the premise that Cameron implemented into today’s workout. To start things off the group did a lap around the dome, and then hit up the stairs. After that the fun kicked in.
Before the workout, everyone that showed up was asked to write down there phone number on a post it note. After our warm-up, each tribe member selected a random phone number. Every number 0-9 was assigned a different workout movement, and cones were placed along the perimeter of Champion Square representing each number. Each tribe member was to let the random phone number direct them on what station they were supposed to go to. At each station, members would do the assigned exercise for three minutes at a time and then rotate on to the next number in the sequence. A hard day and a good day…Sorry to those of you who got phone # with a lot of “9”, death by burpee is a slow death.
After the workout, each tribe member was charged with one task. Sometime this week, they are to send a text message to the phone number they picked. It can be encouraging, funny, or just a simple “ Fuck Yeah”. Honestly, who will not be excited to get a text from a stranger inside this community of workout maniacs? You never know how you will impact someone day.
In full disclosure, we at NPNO stole the idea for this workout from one of our Yankee friends to the north. Imitation is the highest form of flattery and we really thought this idea was badass.
Spirit award this week goes to Linda. Linda has been with us from the beginning and is a joy to be around. She pushes others to #justshowup and has helped NP_NO grow to the size we are today. Congrats Linda, you have been found worthy of the Spirit Award.
