What to expect in the coming months, Toronto…

With Dan’s retirement, Toronto moving into Phase 3, and with Steph going away for a few weeks – what will NP Toronto look like for the next little while?

Hopefully the below will answer some of your burning questions! (Psst…there is a summary at the end if you REALLY can’t read it all.)

Q: Dan retired (sad face) – Who’s the NEW co-leader?

A: In all fairness, who would want to come on as a new co-leader over Zoom? Trust me, it just doesn’t create the same feels. So out of respect of the future co-leader (whomever that may be!), I (Steph) will not be bringing on a new co-leader until we are back, and settled, into in-person workouts….So stay tuned!

Q: Okay, so WHEN will we be going back to in-person workouts?

A: I know you’re eager to see all the faces you’ve been seeing through the screen each week, IN-PERSON (I am too!) BUT, let’s just hold out a little bit longer. Our objection isn’t to jump in too early, only to shut down again. We want to make sure we approach this conservatively and cautiously, so we can all gather together, safely.

On another note, I (Steph) will be away for the Aug 26 to the Sept 16 workouts. I don’t want a guest leader to be responsible for the first couple of physically distant, in-person workouts. That just ain’t fair! (ex. We have an online waiver that must be signed and checked – aka extra tasks are going to be in place.) So when I come back and things are sill looking bright, we will be looking at in-person workouts.

Q: So what will happen with the Wednesday workouts while Steph is away?

A: As you may know, November Project HQ has been posting a workout each week on their main social media handles (instagram, Facebook). They are great, so check those out!

BUT, if you’d rather connect with a group to workout with – no problem! I will post an NP city suggestion on social media (on Tuesday) that workouts over Zoom. Toronto can invade and take over a city hehehe! I will also suggest y’all have coffee on Zoom together afterwards (on our own Zoom link), like we normally would 🙂

Q: Won’t this impact the community feel and connection that Toronto has right now?

A: Gosh, I hope not!

Continue to connect with each other – send virtual high fives over Zoom when you travel to a different NP city, chat over our morning coffee link, go to the socials put on by the AMAZING Social Committee (these will continue!), and continue to reach out to one another (including me!!!) whenever you feel like it! Just because I won’t be there for a few Wednesdays does not mean this GREAT community stops! We have adapted and stayed connected thus far; let’s do it for a little longer! I swear, we are going to come out of this better than before! #NP_Continues

Q: Sweet, but do you have an idea of what the workouts will look like when we do go back in person?

A: As the lovely ladies from Ottawa, ever so nicely said in their Blog, “we will have a workout that will be a challenge by choice, where you push yourself as hard as you want to go, with others surrounding you (at a distance), cheering you on wherever you are at. We will have connection and community. This connection will look different, because our gatherings have historically been close together physically, with hugs and high fives, but we are going to work together to still make the connections happen, [we] may make mistakes along the way, but it’s really important that we keep our community safe.”

Below you will find the guidelines and new standards brought to you by NP HQ (originally posted by Brojan Mandaric here). PLEASE have a read:

“Hi November Project, it’s been a while since we’ve all been together. As the world is figuring out how to come back from the pandemic and more places are going back to in-person workouts we’d like to share some things that every NP member will have to follow in order to maintain health and safety of our communities. There will be things that are very specific to your location and your co-leaders will be sharing those when the time comes, but these are directions that will apply to all November Project cities:

Personal Contact

I’m sure that many of you are longing for the days where you’ll be able to embrace your friends with a tight hug, high-five, or a fist bump. Unfortunately, there are still many uncertainties that are surrounding COVID-19 so until further notice, please make sure to refrain from engaging in physical contact with your fellow members before, during, and after the workout. Consequently, all workouts will be designed to follow this directive (no partner exercises, close encounters, etc.)

The Bounce

This is another NP staple that will have to take a back seat for a foreseeable future as having people in a tight space chanting and engaging in call-and-response is something that we don’t deem safe under the circumstances. We know that for some of you, the bounce is a great way to get into the mindset of the workout and we’re encouraging Co-leaders to come up with different creative ways to engage in introductions that will get you fired up to get going.

Wearing Masks

For those choosing to wear masks or a face covering while working out, we encourage you to participate at the level that is comfortable for you but please be aware that the mask can increase the workload and cause unnecessary strain on your body. If you are feeling light-headed, dizzy, or short of breath, please find a safe place to take a seated rest, slow your breathing, and hydrate. As always, locate a Co-leader and call your local emergency number if you are in need of medical attention. You do not need to wear your mask during the workout, but we ask that you have it for before and after.

Before starting the workout, all members (new and old) will have to sign an online waiver that can be found below or in the website top navigation as well as the footer, in the link named “Waiver”. Participation in November Project workout will not be allowed without a signed waiver. We are able to check to see who did and did not sign this, PLEASE do it.

You can find a copy of the waiver here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSefxNbuilBozdtF-tqTF6D_LixdxVRVrLsOs8zQ3-Gr_RWiVQ/viewform?pli=1

Have Fun!

We understand that some of these things may not feel like the days of “old” November Project, but the beauty of this community is its willingness to adapt to the circumstances and make the best out of the situation in service of the greater good. We appreciate your help in making the re-opening of NP as seamless as possible.

If you have traveled abroad, please respectfully quarantine yourself for 2 weeks.

If you or ANYONE in your home is ill or experiencing ANY symptoms, please stay home.”

If you have more questions, please reach out! And although I will be away, I will still be connectable (just a few hours behind…)!!!

Summary of NP Toronto right now:

  1. No new co-leader until we resume in-person.
  2. We won’t resume in-person workouts until Steph comes back (mid September), if it is safe to do so.
  3. Steph is away for the workouts from Aug 26 – Sept 16. Do the workouts posted by NP HQ, or do the suggested city workout over Zoom posted by NP Toronto, while she is away. Still have coffee together afterwards!
  4. Read this posting by Bojan (NP HQ) to familiarize yourself with what in-person workouts will look like.
  5. Sigh the waiver!!!
  6. NP Toronto Socials will continue!!!
  7. Stay connected with each other!!! (And to Steph tooooo – she can be reached while she’s away!!)
  8. #NP_Continues
