The tribe was an unstoppable force this morning!!! In my opinion, Micheltorena suicide hills are the hardest hills we conquer – worse even than Baxter, if that’s possible. And still, everyone who #justshowedup demonstrated incredible strength and stamina. I saw people in cars staring open-mouthed at us as they drove up that monster. Fuck yeah, we are that badass!

We’re a tight-knit group, but there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes that we don’t necessarily know about each other. Whenever people tell me they can’t believe how I approach my broken foot with such a positive attitude, I realize that usually only Kevin is witness to the (lots of) times that I lose my cool. But I’m not faking how happy I am to see you guys and crutch alongside you; you all pull me up from any outside funk going on again and again.
When I was fairly new to NP, my car engine gave out on the highway and that was the end of that car. It was my dad’s old car that I had brought out to California after he died, and I was devastated. It felt like losing my dad all over again. I called my mom and she asked me if NP was meeting up anytime soon. “They meet tomorrow,” I told her. “But I don’t think I can go. I feel like it’s awkward to be a downer around so many happy people.” She pushed me to go and said she felt like you guys were the kind of people who would understand. I felt like I was imposing asking for someone to go out of their way and give me a ride, but Lewis scooped me up without a second thought and we became carpool buddies 4 life (at least until he moved). Cameron Ross volunteered to help me go about buying a new car. Christiana called me to say some people were doing a detox + retox event that weekend at Angel City Brewery and if I wanted to go she would be happy to get me. No one knew the emotional context of my old car, but everyone could sense I needed help getting through a rough time.
Sometimes what we’re battling is physical rather than emotional. MIN RAN 33 MILES YESTERDAY AND DID THOSE HILL REPEATS TODAY. WHAT?!???????? Kevin and Willie did double sessions of those suicides!!! Meghan Fuelling ran 10 miles this morning with a casual dose of those hills in the middle!!!! Or maybe you’re hurt, have a cold coming on, just came from a whole night of working at a bar (hi Jesse and Johnny) and you still show up and throw down the best you can without making excuses. That is AMAZING and you are inspiring to all of us, whether you realize it or not.

I hear it all the time from my non-NP friends: “I’m not fast/fit enough to come to NP,” or “I can’t be that chipper in the morning.” We veterans know that doesn’t matter. I love being around each and every one of you: at your fastest, slowest, sorest, happiest, and saddest. Whatever our states, we’re going to make it to the very top of Micheltorena together.

I love you guys. DO GOOD, LA!!!!!!!!!!
