Getting out of bed in winter can sometimes be a challenge. Usually it’s because of snow and ice and the bitter cold. Today though, it was the rain.
So as I was driving to Prospect Terrace Park, I got to thinking about what weatherproof really means. About how rainy days, and cold, and snow and ice affect our desires to be places. About how much easier it is to turn inwards, snuggle with a loved one, a pillow, or your adorable cat Millie.
And I thought a bunch about how much easier it is to avoid things that make us uncomfortable. That big project at work (or like today, even going to work), confrontation with someone, a phone call or doctor’s appointment you’ve been avoiding. It’s way easier to sweep this under the rug.
But just like climbing out of bed on a rainy morning, our goal should be to get comfortable with the uncomfortable. Not every day is a bucket of sunshine. Rain happens sometimes, and it prepares us for what we may encounter in other aspects of our life.
Our goal should be to weatherproof our lives. Does showing up in a downpour to run a steep hill give you the strength to take a risk, look for a new job, have that conversation you’ve put off for months? Maybe. Hopefully.
And sometimes, the rain is the perfect day. Like today. Or tomorrow. Be open to it, and it can change your life.
