Weather…what?

It’s official.  It’s time for the annual blog post about being #weatherproof.

That’s right.  Weather PROOF.  Not #weatherspoof as our more temperate-climate tribes need to be, since they’ll always walk outside into sunshine and some kind of lovely “it’s just so nice to be outside” kind of weather.

#weatherproof is what you are when you make a commitment to keep your body moving, to continue with your pursuit of fitness, to maintain your routine of just showing up, regardless of the weather. There is no weather we’ve experienced in Boston so far, including during the coldest winter in history that also received the highest total snowfall in the history of Boston (111″), that has been able to stop NP workouts from happening.  Which means that the only thing that can stop us from working out is ourselves.  Didn’t someone old and smart once say, “we’ve got nothing to fear but fear itself”?  If you’re afraid of the cold, get some layers.  If you’re afraid of the traction on the ground, get some winter running shoes or those fancy “snow chains” for shoes called yak-clogs or something like that. Sure, the gear isn’t free, but the fitness will always be free.  So let’s start thinking about what weatherproof really means.

The wisest of wise at NP say, “You don’t look at the temperature/weather report for tomorrow morning in order to decide whether to work out or not.  You look in order to decide how many layers to wear.”

Right here is the very best information and instruction video about knowing what to wear (base layers are so important, middle layers are critical, and outer layers are what’s up, and so much more).  Let’s give some credit to the un-humanly resilient and cold-hearty folks at NP_Canada (Edmonton) for putting together this info.  READ THIS & WATCH THIS VIDEO NOW.

And talk about being #weatherproof.  Not to rub it in the faces of your friends who were a little less weatherproof than you this morning or other cold, rainy, cloudy, early, dark, wednesday-y mornings.  Just remind them that it’s cold for everyone, and while the conditions may be more challenging, the fitness is always free.  And the harsher the conditions, the more fun it is to #riseandshine, #earnyourbreakfast, and #getweird with the Tribe.  Remember Jesse Ledin’s remark in the recently released NP documentary, “Showing Up,” created by Dooster and fueled by TNF: “I personally like it when the weather is really bad.  It makes me feel like much more of a badass.”

That’s it folks.  You know what to do.  Layer Up.  #JustShowUp.  #BeMoreOfABadass

Because we’re #weatherproof.

For everyone who crushed There and Back Again in the stadium this morning, record your sections in the tracker.  And get ready for Friday.  It’s #PRHill day.  #RaceEverything
