Wake Up (YEG)

As a co-leader I have a dichotomy in my lead up to each workout (especially our least attended workouts on Mondays). One is that if only one person showed up and we had fun I would be happy. Two is that the more people that are there the more fun it is. Both can exist and yet they almost feed off of each other; if a bunch of people show up I remind myself of the first and if less show then I remind myself of the second thinking about how can more people find out about this and have fun with us.

This morning was a morning where I wouldn’t fault anyone for not showing up. The cold snap hit hard and YEG gave us little time to build up a tolerance to the cold. That wind tipped us into the -20 realm and I thought ok I’ve got a workout planned but if only 4 of us show up we can still make it fun. Instead quadruple of that turned up in full winter gear to have some fun while doing fitness. I had fun even with the wind, even with the snow, even with the slow jazz music on repeat blaring across the strip-mall lol. I needed this today. I needed this community of amazing humans to say fuck the cold I am still showing up. No matter how many times it happens, no matter how many ways I say these words, I will always appreciate each and everyone one of you who choose to be here.

But also OH MY GOSH WINTER ATHLETICS MAKE SO MUCH LAUNDRY. And of course I air dry my good athletics so my drying rack is basically always taking up space in the place. I catch up on laundry and then boom more laundry. What am I wearing while doing laundry? THAT’S RIGHT clothes…that will have to be washed eventually!!! This paragraph has no kind words or any dichotomy of thinking it’s just all sucky reality of adult life ARGH. Don’t even get me started about cleaning up cat hair everywhere. But the cat is cute – have you met Tonks yet? Here is a photo

and here’s three more

Ok the cute cat photos have calmed me down from my laundry crisis. Even if you don’t like cats you gotta admit this fluff ball is kinda adorable.

If you didn’t know, this Wednesday we are celebrating a member of our community who recently passed away. Bill would have turned 94 this week so bring everyone out and let’s #BeLikeBill and get some stairs for breakfast in. If you would like we have a super awesome Bill tag (deigned by an amazing talented community member Nino Roy) to spray paint. The spray paint will not stick in the cold so bring a shirt with your name on it and we’ll return the shirts a week later.

Keep being awesome,

Rob
