We brought back a throwback workout today. 4.5 years ago, we tried to do a skating workout at the same location. However, when it was -30 that morning, we had to change our plans and decided to do the Polar Vortex in the parking lot. And just like that, Mother Nature made us adjust our plans. It may not have been what we expected, but we had to make the most of what we got. In the same way that we had to make adjustments back then, so many of us have had to make adjustments in the past few weeks.
The Fat Dog Ultra was cancelled last week because of the fires. The Apple Triathlon was cancelled because of the smoke. At the Edmonton Marathon, some people dropped their distance because the air quality was looking like it would cause some trouble. Luckily, the it magically improved for the Edmonton Marathon and many of us were able to run and cheer. It takes months of training for many of these races, and then something completely out of your control derails your plan. So, you adjust. You find a way to make it work. You reschedule, you make a plan B, you do something different. It may not be what you had expected, but you have to make the most of what you got.
