For those who were completely confused by our “burn out” today, please watch this: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5lnh79
Now, we all did a really hard workout today, and that’s all good and grand. But I think I speak for the entire tribe when I say that the burn out Hobby Horse World Championship on the Alta Plaza Playground was the highlight of the day. It was so good that I ended up only getting photos of that portion of the workout. Whoops. Here is what went down:
Pablo, riding “Fire Nuts” the horse, was off to what hobby horse fans would call a “hot start.” Weaving through the swings like a seasoned veteran, he hit his first hiccup with a wrong turn through the ‘tunnel of confusion.’ Luckily, Zip the horse trainer, was there to lead him back on path.

Pablo and Fire Nuts breezed through the rest of the course with minimal to moderate galloping, questioning their riding technique and possibly just considering it “running with a horse head.” But after 48 blazing seconds, the two crossed the line to a roaring crowd of adoring fans.

Up next was Emma McCune and her horse, “Poison Oak In Terrible Places”. Long name if you ask me, but the hobby horse fans looooove Poison Oak In Terrible Places. Emma was also off to a lightening start when she got completely turned around, losing momentum and having to step onto the jumps, slowing her time.

She picked the pace back up, only to be completely baffled by the ‘spinning wheel of death’, which, despite going at record slow pace, could not manage to stay on.

But she persevered with Poison Oak In Terrible Places! And off she went, with consistent galloping throughout, scoring max points on style and precision.

In the end, Emma crossed the line in 51 seconds, a mere 3 seconds behind Pablo and his Fire Nuts. What a day at the races! What a day!
