The week after… the years after

Does anybody else have a hangover from last week’s 10th birthday?

Just me then?

hahaha

I wanted to share something.

That we have legacy co-leaders who are still present and proud of what they created is pretty special. That Rob and I feel we can reach out to them if we have questions or come up to a barrier we haven’t encountered yet (and there have been a few), I think THAT’S not common. And, it speaks volumes about leaders who have come before me.

I also experienced this in my last professional role- leading the incredible ThresholdImpact VMS program (a MIT-based mentorship program for entrepreneurs… right here in Edmonton). I was the third person to take on this lead role and, as some of you know, I recently vacated this position. I wanted to do for successor what my predecessor did for me- be available, pass the baton with care, be an ongoing ambassador for the program, share experiences and advice when asked, etc.

I’ve now had this behaviour demonstrated to me twice.

Both times, it was clear that it took strong leaders, with big brains and big hearts, to create and move through a succession plan. Both times, these leaders made it look easy as I attempted to step into their shoes (it was not easy). Both times, there was a whole network of amazing individuals around these leaders who were there to provide support and who just wanted me to lean in and succeed.

I’ve had the great fortune of seeing these behaviours unfold, right in front of me. These roles have come my way with a lot of weight to them IMO. Some of that is in my head and some of it is for real. I get that.

I reflected on this a lot over the weekend and thought to myself how lucky am I to have encountered this twice so far in my life.

I need to chew on this a bit more but thought I’d share what I’ve been thinking so far.

Also, the Proclamation! It belongs to all of us.

What should we do with it so that everyone can have a chance to see/celebrate/share it? Hit us up here with your suggestions: click here.

We’ll probably keep this suggestion box open for another week or so.
