Straight Back. Straight Face. PRDay. (VB)

Today was #PRday. The last Wednesday of the Month. A day where we race the clock (& past versions of ourselves). We use each other to push faster and the feel of competition is in the air– because after all, It is race day.

The #PRday course is unique here at #NP_VB / Mount Trashmore Park. 5 Burpees to start, 5 laps (& 5 Burpees at the turn of each lap), and you end with 5 burpees. For a total of 5 laps and 30 Burpees. It never gets easier and let me tell you, those back side set of stairs are the WORST — that is usually where people begin to slow down and maybe even walk a few steps before the top to catch their breath and then they pick it up again.

STORY TIME: Let’s go back in time, November Project Virginia Beach has been holding #PRday on the last Wednesday of every month at 615AM for the past 28 Months-ish (we missed a few #PRdays during the early days).

Last night Courtney texted me and asked if I wanted to go early (530AM start) and run #PRday before the tribe got there. I haven’t done that since the days of Kris Utt (#UTT2016). So it got me excited about the next day and I said YES! I was excited about attempting #PRDay again (The last time I recorded a #PRday time was May 2016!).

May 2016

We showed up at 530AM. I have been on a hiatus from #PRday and have used leadership duties/injuries as excuses as to why I don’t participate in #PRday every month (mostly afraid I won’t come close to my PR, so why even try). During the first lap I wanted to quit. During the second lap I wanted to quit. But during the third lap I realized if you are chasing an old PR (18:10 – May 2015), you’re never going to get back to it and CRUSH it by sitting on the sidelines or postponing any attempt at it, especially finding excuses month after month.. after month.

Back when I set my PR In May 2015, the tribe was young, I was young(er), and I was a lot faster

I accepted that I have to let go of my 18:10 and start over. Today my goal was just to finish #PRday and put up a time. Something I can look at and try to beat. I logged a 25:46 (Courtney beat me by over 3 minutes). So now my goal for December 2017 will be to beat that 25:46.

We focus a lot on PRs, time, and racing (which is awesome) but it sometimes helps to set those little goals when you are coming back from time away or an injury that has set you back.

Showing Up is half the battle and you always feel better when you do.

Ok. Ok. Enough of the Red’s therapy session. Other notable things that happened today! Mike Earned the PostivityAward! and Karl received the Hard Hat Award from Lania!

Next week is hell week II: The Upside Down. 530AM everyday, Monday – Friday! Get HYPED.

Keep your eyes peeled for more blogs and hell week II: The Upside Down details.

Spread Love,
