Hip-to-hip, shoulder-to-shoulder, whether huddled in the bounce or cuddled for the group picture – we start and end every workout together.
You’ll often hear us say that November Project is about building community using fitness as our vehicle. Yes, we challenge you to push your physical limits. We ask you to give that extra 1% on the hill, be that more power to your power walk or making it one sidewalk square further each week. But we also ask you to interact with one another, to break down social barriers, to meet new people. When we hear that you have PB’d your 10K, run your first half marathon, climbed a mountain and felt great the next day or can now hammer out 10 burpees more easily than when you started we know we’re hitting those physical challenges. When we have newbies come for a second time because they loved their first experience, see people meet up outside of NP for weekend long runs, have a couple share their wedding with the tribe and watch friendships bloom each week over week knowing that without NP these connections may never have been made we know we’re successful in our mission of bringing people together.
And this starts each morning with the bounce – the 6AM gathering that sets the tone for our morning. “Gather in tight…closer…closer…” it’s intentional. Sometimes we chant, sometimes we spin in circles, sometimes we howl at the moon but we are always together and we always welcome the morning together. It is a reminder that there will always be someone to hold you accountable, that there will always be someone else to sweat with, that it is fun to let down your guard and yell at the top of your lungs first thing in the morning.
And we wrap up each morning just as we started it, gathered all together. The group picture gives you a moment to connect, congratulate someone on their progress, share a laugh with a new friend and celebrate birthdays with thunderous BOOM! Following the group photo, arguably my favourite moment of each morning, the last exercise we ask of you each day…“find someone you didn’t come with, give them a hips-in-hug and thank them for coming,” gives you an opportunity to be recognized and to recognize someone for choosing to just show up and for sharing your/their energy.
And sandwiched between these is the workout with cheers of encouragement, high 5s and lots of sweat!
