It’s happening. The days are getting shorter and colder. It’s probably dark out when you leave the house, and it may be dark when you get back home. At this point, both the 5:30 and 6:30 workouts on Wednesday are working out in darkness for the entirety of the workout. Friday hills involve straining your eyes for cracks in the sidewalk that, two months ago, were easy to spot when you were getting to the workout at 6:20. Now, you’re watching out for those cracks as you finish your last hill before the group photo at 7:20.

It ain’t easy.

You know what makes the short days of late fall and winter a little bit easier? Yup, you guessed it.

Hibernation.

Just kidding. It’s November Project of course! Literally no one finds it easy to get up in absolute darkness. Hell, I’ve been using one of those alarm clocks that simulates the sunrise for the last two years; if I use a regular alarm, I just wake up cranky and probably need a Snickers bar. Everyone knows that the hardest part of November Project is the “showing up” part – setting aside those millions of excuses for why staying in bed is better than getting up in the cold and dark. But once you make that decision, your mornings look like this:

Or this:

We can’t make the sun rise any earlier (but Daylight Savings Time can – this Sunday!) or make the cold go away. However, we can wake up the sun together and help you warm up with some deep, hips-in hugs from strangers and friends alike.

You can count on Nick, Syd, and I (your mother geese), along with anywhere from 20-100 other people, to be there week in and week out. Once YOU make that decision to #justshowup, it will all be worth it.
