Listening

I aim to listen. Always.

Maybe what I actually mean is that I’m always ready to take it all in.

I feel like I “listen” with what is said, what I hear, what I see, what I don’t see.

Like reading between the lines sometimes. Ya know?

I think you know this by now but I’m a people person which means I always want to understand how others are doing, how I can help and support, how to make something better for others, how to help someone shine, etc.

I have to listen to do so. Or… take it all in.

I feel quite proud that this is a strong skill of mine. I suck at lots of things (yes, I do…. everybody sucks at stuff) but this isn’t one of them.

I’ve shared with some of you in person that I recently started a new job. First, my brain is full…. I’m still trying to find my equilibrium. What I want to share here is that I’m doing A LOT of listening these days. Being in a new leadership role, I want to listen to everything and everyone. I’ll filter in what’s most important later on but, right now, I truly am looking to hear everything.

I’m best at listening to what’s working, what’s not, what’s really tricky, who is really tricky, where the gaps are, what others’ feel potential solutions can be, etc.

I think it’s fun to use this to read between the lines and start to form thoughts around biggest challenges, biggest opportunities/wins, what to do more of, what to let go of, what to start doing, etc.

This post has nothing and also everything to do with NP.

We’re about to round the corner on year 9 (WHAT?!?!) and make our way to the big 1-0! Whether you’ve been with NP all these years or are a new crew member, this is your community.

I’ve had the chance to listen and take it in for 8.5 years now. First as a participant and now as a co-leader of us. So has Rob. Together, we are quite pumped to take all of that learning and continue building what was purposefully developed those many years ago. And do so as we approach a pretty big milestone. We’re the 4th NP city to do so! Kind of a big deal.

The big 10 is coming friends. I hope you’re getting excited. I sure am.

…. and nice work out there today. We had 23 secs left in the burnout. We’re doing the whole thing next time!
