Today, comin to you hot off the presses is a badass lawyer lady who doesn’t take shit in her professional life or on the race track. The worst part about Maya Fe is while she’s kicking your ass, she’ll say something super positive like “Thanks for the push!” or “Great job!” all with a huge smile on her face. Meanwhile you’re busy sucking wind and trying not to bonk. She’s fast, she’s awesome, and she doesn’t. ever. stop. She enjoys long walks on the beach (probably), but mostly just spending time on a sailboat (which only goes one speed: really effing fast). Ladies, and gentlemen, the one and only Maya Fe!
Name: Maya Fe Holzhauer
Alias/Nickname: Mayz. The Fe-ster. Smiley. 1/4 of HBL. (Maya didn’t enter anything here, so I put in some options)
Date of First Workout: November 11, 2013
Why’d you Just Show Up? I had moved to Boston in August to start my first “real job” and was looking for ways to be active in the city. A stranger I met on the internet (it wasn’t that weird- okay!?) was going to check out her first workout, and I agreed to meet her there. I was instantly hooked. Early mornings? Yes please! The best time to be productive! High energy? FUCK YEAH. (Side note- my nickname in college was the “energizer bunny” (…also a variation on “Maya Fe” rhyming with “other trucker” – but that’s another story)). Super fit inspiring people?! Let’s be friends! Hard workouts? Sounds great!
Bostonian or Transplant? Transplant, by way of Maine and Vermont.
Tribes Visited: DC- they did the Easter Egg workout…ours was better. LAX- much beautiful people. much time in car. Project Awesome- maybe not actually NP, but these people were amazing and a single workout turned into a weekend of fun free fitness with new friends.
Tribe Crushes: The women of #HOTBUTTERLIGHTNING. They are collectively some of the most inspiring women I have ever met. They are kind, strong, smart, fast, driven, humble, and of course, incredibly hot. These women are my constant inspiration. This could be an entire blog post…but I’ll reign it in.
Also, obviously all of the leaders. How could I not?
Favorite NP Day of the Week: Friday. I love getting to see everyone run by. Silent waving is the weirdest.
Favorite Recurring Workout: Sunrise5k.
Least Favorite Recurring Workout: RaceMan
Favorite NP Workout EVER: I just wasted half an hour looking through my tagged photos reminiscing on all my favorite NP memories, and I can’t choose just one. I need to get up early tomorrow and I’m tired! So, total cop out, but check back with me when I actually write a full on blog post.
I’ll never forget… The day my iPhone was stolen from a destination deck. An incredible crew helped me track it down, chasing the thief around Roxbury on foot and by Hubway. Eventually we found it pinging (is that even a word?) from inside a big belly trash compactor, and someone from the city came to open the thing up. I was blown away that these people were willing to delay the start of their day to help me. Also, there was a dead raccoon.

I laughed hardest when…Chris or Chris sing songs during the bounce.
Anyone inspire you at NP that you haven’t told yet (now’s the time…don’t make it weird? Every Single Person Who Shows Up. The parents. The students. The kids. The old people. The injured. The fast. The slow. The super fit. The first timers. And all of the leaders, past and present. I have no idea how you do what you do. It is absolutely incredible.
Why do you keep showing up? NP is what I love about Boston. It’s part of the reason I stayed here for law school, it’s the reason this city feels like home to me. NP has given me an incredible community, it’s introduced me to some of the most inspiring people I’ve ever met, it makes me a better, happier person. It’s the reason I’m in shape, the reason I’m active.
What do you do for a living? I’m a full time law student at Northeastern, and I teach yoga.
When you were a child, what did you “want to do when you grow up?” I wanted to be Britney Spears. I did not want to be a pop star, I literally wanted to be Britney…obviously I was confused about a lot of things.
What is your superpower? I can fall asleep on a plane before it takes off and not wake up until we touch down.
What’s a question that we didn’t ask that we should’ve? Something weird…
Catch Maya and the rest of the tribe Monday, 6:30am at Fort Hill Tower in Roxbury!
