Just Keep Swimming (NOLA)

Oh, PR Day. The most dreadful, but rewarding day of the month. Today, we set out to crush our PRs, create puddles of sweat, and even Bring Sally Up.

“But it’s so hot and humid in NOLA… I don’t know if I can do it,” some may say.

You know what our response is?

Oh, Dory – so inspirational, so positive, so happy. Today I witnessed multiple cases of that “just keep swimming” moment.

  • I saw multiple newbies finish their second lap, completely beat and unsure if they had another one in them. But as they looked ahead to those who kept running, their doubt turned into motivation and off they went.
  • When a pair of guys got to the plaza, I overheard this conversation:

Guy 1: Dude, I don’t know if I have another lap in me.

Guy 2: Same, but I don’t want to give up.

Guy 1: Alright, let’s do it then.

  • Lovely Lisa told me this morning that she only thought she could do one lap today because of some pain. Next thing I knew, she was climbing up the stairs after her second lap beaming. Nothing could’ve stopped her this morning.

  • And the best one of all was when I overheard someone on his last stretch of his final lap singing “Just Keep Swimming” as he passed.

This morning may have been just another PR day, but a new intention was set. You don’t have to be the fastest, fittest, strongest, hottest, coolest person out there to impress us. Quite honestly, there’s nothing more impressive than you just showing up and giving it your all.

This morning, Tori said something along the lines of “It was a 5-second PR for me, but it’s still not very fast compared to everyone else.” Glenn quickly jumped in and responded, “The only person you are competing with is yourself.” BAM. MIC DROP. WOWWEEE.

This is Tori. She set a PR today. And ran an extra lap of PR Day.

Today and every day at NP, your only goal should be to do better today than you did yesterday. It may be a faster PR time or maybe one more burpee during Sebastians. Maybe your “better” involves remembering a few more names or taking one less water break during stairs. The only person who can set your personal record is you – so stop knocking yourself down for doing something awesome. And when life does get you down and you think it’s time to give up, just remember what our good friend Dory says…

“Just Keep Swimming.”

Go win your day, NOLA.
