It Was Way Better Than I Thought it Would Be

Alice Nelson has been coming to November Project Boston for about 6 years now… She’s always been at the front of the pack, and routinely shows up to all days November Project. She even makes it to Tues/Thursday Breakfast Club as well. Since she works so damn hard all the time it’s no wonder she’s fast. Or that her boyfriend-turned-fiancee has also gotten a shitload faster since they started dating. But Alice–or as she’s known in our community–Fast Alice–showed up today “just to give you the damn stick back.”

See, we had given her totally-awesome-positive fiancee, Sig, the Positivity Award last Wednesday ’cause he got roped into being fast and working hard early in the morning by Fast Alice and we liked having him around. So, even though it was the day after the day after Christmas, Alice and Sig had to get up, and return the Positivity Award this morning.

Alice was upset. She didn’t wannnnna go out in the cold snowy Boston morning, but Ol’ Siggy pulled her out from under her covers and to November Project–all in the name of the PA.

We ran a workout under the stairs ’cause the snow and ice made sections impossible.

At the end Alice came up to me and said “You know, that was way better than I thought it was going to be… thanks.”

RIGHT?! This is the beauty of NP. No matter how dark, how cold, how miserable it is outside, November Project always seems to be worth getting out of bed for.

Seriously.

Think about it.

Have you ever actually regretted going to a November Project workout? I know there’s been mornings that I reeeally didn’t want to go, but laced up and headed out anyway, only to find myself laughing and sweating and being glad as hell I was there.

We have this saying in the ski world that you never know exactly what the conditions will be until you’re actually on the mountain. It could be raining in the valley, and dumping buckets on the summit. You gotta go. You have to check it out to know. And you know what? I never regret getting up and getting out there.

The same thing is true with NP. And the beauty of NP is you know there will be people there. You know you won’t be the only one out there in the snow and the cold and the ice. You know there will be Fast Alice and Sigs. You know Elin will be there in his beardaclava. You know that whatever the weather, we will be there. November Project is #weatherproof. It’s always “way better than you thought it was gonna be,” and it’s damn worth showing up for.

We’ll see you Friday for freezing fucking awesome hills in Brookline.

Much Love,
– C. Payne
