There was magic in the air this morning. That magic took the form of a breathtaking sunrise, strength in our legs, and the oomph behind our “fuck yeah”s!!! That magic spread smiles across strangers’ faces and followed us to our cars as we left to start the day just a little lighter and happier than when we drove in. Every single one of you ran your little hearts out this morning. Some earned shiny new PRs, and everyone earned the right to feel proud and go on an ice cream date with me to Salt & Straw in the near future – your treat.

For a lot of people, PR Day comes with a little excitement and a little fear. When I first joined NP, I fucking lived for PR Day. It was a constant that I could measure myself up against month by month, and oftentimes felt like the only reliable feedback I was getting in my life (actors/entertainment industry peeps/everyone with a job I know you feel me). It was concrete proof that I was getting better at something. And then one month I didn’t PR and, crazily enough, I still felt accomplished and strong and like a badass that completed every stair in the Hollywood Bowl (#throwback) or its equally awesome equivalent of 3 loops around the Observatory and surrounding steep trails. My point is this: I think it’s an awesome thing to throw out challenging goals and be vocal about it. And if you miss it, so what? We all miss our goals sometimes; if you never do you need to set harder goals. If you make your goal, the fantasticness you experience is so worth the fear you feel beforehand.

Take our #terriblyfamous friend from the NYC tribe, Kelly Roberts. In her blog, “Run, Selfie, Repeat,” Kelly ran a campaign called #BQorBust in which she very publicly declared her goal to qualify for the Boston Marathon and shave about 25 minutes of her marathon PR. She got close, she did not achieve her goal, and she was fucking fearless in the transparency of her pursuit. (The girl is fearless in everything she does. For real, check out her blog and prepare to feel inspired AF.) Don’t be shy in shouting out our goals to the world. If it doesn’t work out, you have a whole tribe to pick you back up. If it does, we’re all here to celebrate with you.

We have a handful of tribemates whose goal it is to BQ at Mountains 2 Beach at the end of May. FUCK YES!!!!! We all have your backs. As for myself, I’m going to get off these crutches and someday soon run a 6:30 mile. You read it here first.
