Holy 4th of July Batman!
Did you see the fireworks? Boston is a dope city to be in for the 4th–what with all the history and the Boston Pops and the fireworks on the river and all.

You know it was a good weekend and Holiday when attendance at Harvard Stadium on a Wednesday morning was was strangely, unusually low. Okay, okay, it was a mere 5-6 hours after the last firework boomed over the Charles River. The tribe was TIRED this morning. Which we know because so many folks just stayed in and recovered from the big long weekend, and because those of you who did show up were, shall we say, less hyped than your typical summer Wed morning.
Just to spice it up a little bit and bring some of that festive vibe from the river last night to the stadium this morning–we did the Boroughs workout, with Firework spice.

It went a little something like this: the tired, weary folks who chose fitness over fitted sheets selected a Borough to live in, based on their speed. Then each Borough ran 5 sections on repeat, giving them a chance to get to know more people who are roughly their same speed, as they ran around and around together. And for spice…each Borough was given one little American flag to use and pass around. Whoever held the flag could choose a time to announce “I am [fill in your name] in Borough 2 and this is a firework!” At which point, all those running in that Borough would hustle to the bottom of the section and everyone would sprint to the top. The firework-caller would then pass off the flag to another person, who did the same thing, whenever they decided to. You know how EmC2 usually calls the firedrills during workouts? Well no one got mad at us today because you yahoos did all the Firework-ing on your own. Boom.
It’s always amazing to see what’s possible, even when we’re really tired, if we show up and throw down. I bet no one wanted to sprint up a single section this morning when the alarm went off toooo early. Yet we found speed. We managed to complete sections and hustle through the workout, fireworks and all, along with our neighbors in the Borough.
So, I’ll ask you again…did you see the fireworks? Last night, did they light you up a little bit, even if you’re tired of the stuff in the world? And this morning, did those fireworks wake you up, light you up, fire you up a little bit, even in the midst of being exhausted?
#TheTribeIsExhausted but baby, you’re a firework.*
*(I’m pretty sure no one else used that line in any blogs or social media posts about the 4th of July. right? #original)
