Chinatown is one of my favorite rotating Fridays. The laps that we run are pretty much the perfect distance for a Couple’s Retreat lap. If you are unfamiliar with Couple’s Retreat, you should start showing up to NP. Partner A runs while Partner B does a strength exercise. Partner A returns, they switch roles, and Partner B runs. Do this for 35 minutes while cycling through a circuit of exercises, and I guarantee you will get in a solid sweat!
Couple’s Retreat got a little remix this time though. Our usual circuit of push-ups, squats, burpees, wall sits, planks, and jumping jacks was replaced by push-ups, squats, supermans, starfish sit-ups, mountain climbers, and planks. Why the change? Change is good. It kicks complacency in the ass and out the door. Also, in terms of working out, change is essential to continue growth. If we don’t change things up within our training then we will plateau much sooner.
So let’s jump at the opportunity to change things up a bit. Challenge ourselves in new ways. Attempt something you’re afraid of, push yourself beyond your mental limit in a workout, say hi to a stranger in a coffee shop, do a random twirl while walking down the street or while shopping in Trader Joes, convince people to #justshowup on a Wednesday or a Friday, or a Wednesday AND a Friday!
