As the first post pandemic season at Commonwealth Stadium comes to a close I could not have been happier to be back on those steps (I am already missing them). I have climbed these stairs countless times over the years and still it never gets old. There is nothing like them in the city – dare I say the world. Truly some heartfelt thank yous are in order:
Thank you Commonwealth for having thousands of stairs for this community to play and push themselves on. Thank you for providing a space were we can support each other. Thank you for always giving us a challenge no matter how much effort we put in. Thank you for the stunning views of the city we call home. Thank you for letting us enjoy the best sunrises the city has to offer. Thank you for the railings that make us feel safer going down and that can stain your hands green. Thank you for that one rickety step that reminds me to watch my footing. Thank you for the seats that let me catch my breath when I need it. Thank you for having a great echo so I can hear all the cheers and yells from everyone (and when time is called). Thank you for the endless memories and joy you bring into people’s lives.

Even more thank yous needed when it comes to the humans that make Commonwealth possible for us. Thank you to Jason and his team from the City of Edmonton for believing in the why this community and this place is important to #YEG. Thank you to Dave and staff onsite for always lettings us in with a warm smile (even though it is so early in the morning haha). Thank you to the staff that clean the stadium and make this place safe for all of us to enjoy. Thank you, thank you, thank you, a million times thank you.

And finally thank you! Yes you! This community wouldn’t be possible if you didn’t choose to #JustShowUp for each other. You make a difference. Your presence makes someone’s day (certainly it does mine). We cannot wait until we get to climb those stairs again next year.

On a personal note – thank you to Lazina for being a kick ass partner in crime. It’s been a long time coming but we’ve made it through your first Commonwealth Season as a co-leader!! Here’s to many more!
Keep being awesome,
Rob
