Comfort (YEG)

Last week, I heard that we were expecting some ridiculously cold weather today. Naturally, I took some time to mentally get ready to be frozen for the entire week. It also meant that I packed extra gloves and toques for those who don’t understand cold. This year has clearly been colder than the previous few and I’m still trying to remember which layers I used to wear at -20 or at -30. But then I get to the workout, and like the many of you who have been coming for the past month, I remember that these temperatures are really not that bad. Being outside when it is this cold is still fun, if not funner (it’s a word) and it’s never as bad as you tell yourself. I might be opening up the door for Mother Nature to hit us with some ridiculously cold weather after this. But either way, it’s a good reminder that one of your biggest obstacles is yourself. This past summer, Jen talked about doing the Old 96er and said she had to tell herself that for the next 59 minutes, she knew she was going to be uncomfortable and that she would have to become comfortable with that. Working out in cold weather is the same. It’s fucking cold. You’ll be uncomfortable.  So get comfortable with knowing that you’ll be uncomfortable for the workout. And you’ll feel way more badass when you’re done. It’s really easy to turn off your alarm and roll over under your duvet at this time of year, but whatever you are telling yourself, is it REALLY true?

By the way, this morning I did some burpees in the snow and on the concrete. Burpees on fresh snow are 1000x more fun.

News from the NP World:

Our frozen friends over in Winnipeg decided to create their own badge for surviving ridiculously cold weather. We have always been proud of those kids and I would encourage you to visit their city and tribe one day. They are easily one of the top 7 tribes in Canada. Back to their badge, they felt it necessary to one-up (or is it one-down) us and created a -31 badge. And I’m more than happy to let them celebrate that they are colder than us. Go visit them. I was there when it was -43C and I had a blast. Go get a badge. Bring it back and make everyone else here jealous.

Speaking of visiting other tribes, Summit 5 is happening from June 9-11 in Boston this year. We already have over 20 people throw down verbals for it. Thinking of coming? We’re more than happy to let you know how the week plays out, but there has never been a single person who has regretted going to Summit.

The new NP Buffs are coming. Keep asking me when, because I won’t tell you. You’ll just have to keep showing up.

Friday we are at Walterdale Hill at 6am.

Find the Good,

Nadim
