Choose the Extra Layer (YEG)

This year, more than ever, I was prepared to take on winter. In fact, I was pretty thrilled to wake up on Wednesday and see that there was so much snow that I wouldn’t have to setup the lights at the stairs. I always think that if we can make it to Halloween without snow, then we’re lucky. So, when the snow fell and the temperature dropped all on the same day, I was pretty excited about it. This seems slightly backwards that I’d be excited for winter. Let’s be honest here, we all choose to live here. We all know that cold winters make us appreciate hot summers. We all know that short winter days mean long summer days. And when it comes to the NP world, every other tribe wishes they could prove they can handle -30 weather like we can. If you’ve ever travelled to another tribe, one of the first things you were be asked about is the -30 badge. Every year at summit, so many leaders tell me how they can’t fathom how we deal with our weather for so long. Why? Because whenever they have cold day, they realize that their workout is never as cold as ours.

Weather is just another obstacle that gets thrown in front of you. And just like any other obstacle, you can make a choice. You can waste your energy complaining about it, or you can quietly add an extra layer and crush those hills while you smile under that buff. I’ll choose the extra layer every time.

MONDAY: We’ll be at Dr Wilbert McIntyre Park.

Find the Good,

Nadim

PS. We didn’t get a chance to mention it on Wednesday, but let’s take a minute to remember how special of a moment we all were able to witness. If it didn’t warm your heart right up, you should probably get that heart checked. Once again, it’s another reminder of how amazing the people in our city are.
