Here’s a first… (Ottawa)

There is a first time for everything. This week we had a few firsts at NP YOW….First time working out at the War Museum, First time making it to week 3 of Museum Month, First time having a baby for our regular Blog author (Congrats Becca!), and First time writing the blog on Thursday instead.. I had the best intentions of continuing the Great Blog Tradition of NP YOW, and I hope our loyal readers were not waiting with bated breath for this one… but life got in the way of blogging yesterday, so here it is, better late than never!! read more

Bedtime Rhymes (Ottawa)

Okay, okay – I know it’s late
I’m sorry to have made you wait
The thoughts and feelings in my mind
Took some time to search and find

Another week gone, and this one – my last
For a new arrival is coming in fast
And while I enjoy penning each rhyme
I think I may soon not find the time

So please enjoy this verse tonight
It’s an easy read, breezy and light
Just a quick summary of a wonderful morning
With some cheesy one liners (consider this your warning) read more

We Just Wanna Fly (Ottawa)

Top of the evening, YOWzers! By now everyone should be safely back on the ground after a morning of exploring all that Sugar Ray and the Aviation and Space Museum has to offer.

This morning’s workout featured a variety of movements as well as more cool facts about Aviation and Space than one might ever expect to learn at a 6:29am workout. A big thank you to Rebecca for putting this one together – working brains and bodies at the same time AND a distinct lack of black ice threatening your safety at every attempt to do some form of cardio?! What more could you ask for? read more

Slippery Slope (Ottawa)

Good morning our YOWzers
And what a good one it was
Bringing smiles to our faces
As Wednesday always does

For this morning was in PERSON
Which is hard to believe
As not so long ago
This was hard to conceive

Regarding this morning’s workout
Just one thing we want to say
There were a couple speed bumps
Encountered along the way read more

Rhyme Time Returns (Ottawa)

Happy Wednesday to one and all
So glad you’ve come to read
This blog, of course, has all of the
Important facts you need

First of all, one more thank you
To Erin, our fearless leader
When it comes to virtual workouts,
Truly nobody can beat her

And while it pains us greatly
To not show up next week
It’s only for the human contact
Which we all so desperately seek read more

And the Winner is… (Ottawa)

Good morning, YOWzers!

Hopefully you are taking some time to re-hydrate and re-fuel after the gruelling Olympic competitions this morning. Seriously, most athletes who attend the Olympics compete in one sport. You competed in figure skating, skiing, and 3 different sliding events – even a gold medal hockey game – all on a Wednesday morning. Pretty impressive. (And no, that picture isn’t from this morning, we’re just reeeeally excited to see you all in person again soon!). read more

PR Day: Internet Edition (Ottawa/WWW)

Greetings, NPers near and far! We hope you’ve been having a stellar Wednesday. For those tuning in from Ottawa, we hope you’ve been staying warm through this cold spell. For those checking in from other places with more moderate climates, we also hope that you are generally comfortable in terms of your day to day body temperature. read more

Baking Up A Storm (Ottawa/WWW)

I’m not much of a baker. One time, many years ago, I brought cookies to a Christmas potluck. They were delicious. One of my co-workers asked me if I made them, and I confidently replied “Yes!”. I mean, I had bought the dough, but I rolled it, cut it with the cookie cutter, and placed the festive shapes in the oven. I was the one who removed them from the oven and put some coloured sprinkles on them. And I was the one who transported said cookies into the office for the enjoyment of my colleagues.  read more

EW, David (Ottawa)

Good evening, folks!

We would have written sooner but, as our local readers may have noticed, IT SNOWED TODAY. And it was therefore imperative that this writer get out on the ski hill to get some fresh tracks. Upon returning from said fresh tracks, it was also critical to take a certain devastatingly handsome doggo out for investigative sniffs of the fresh snow (he is happy to report that all important messages were checked and all equally time-sensitive memos were sent out). And now, yeesh, just look at the time… we can only assume that you have been patiently staring at your screen all day long, just waiting for the moment at which this blog would be published. read more

Resolutions (Ottawa)

Good afternoon, YOWzers and welcome to 2022! While it has also been affectionately referred to as “2020, too”, a lot has changed in the last two years… and we think there is a lot to look forward to this year!

Once you’ve hit your COVID limit for the day and are desperately looking for any other topic of conversation, one theme that may be popping up these days is that of the New Year’s Resolution. Now, depending on which study you quickly google/only read the title/don’t check for reliable references… it seems like New Year’s Resolutions are commonly kept, but not so commonly successful. Whether you have made one (or more) resolutions this year, we have prepared a few ways to help you be successful. read more
