We’re a few days away from halloween, and some of you might be going to some halloween gatherings this weekend. If you’re like me, and didn’t think of a costume in time, here are some ideas that you could potentially still create in time:
The No-eyed Ghost – This one is simple. Take a white flat bedsheet that has eye holes already cut, and cover up those eye holes with white fabric.
Inside-out Pumpkin – When you’re carving your pumpkin and have to scrape out all the stringy bits and pumpkin seeds from the inside, save those bits in a sealed container so they don’t dry out. Then, when it is time to make your costume, put those bits on the floor. Wearing an orange outfit, roll around in it until it is evenly distributed along the outside of your body. This works best if you have the insides from multiple pumpkins.
Trick or Treat Bag – Again, this is a fairly simple costume, but would require a bit of sewing. Take a flat bedsheet, fold it in half along. This should leave 3 open sides. You will stick the long side, and one of the short sides, leaving an opening on one of the short sides. Jump in this new “bag” and tell people to put their sweets inside. DIY hack: if you do not know how to sew, use safety pins.
Chaperone – This one is a bit tricky, but if you can pull it off, it will go over really well. Find a child, preferably one that belongs to you. Tell them to go around and say “trick or treat” to random people at the party. Meanwhile, you just wear your warmest gear, carry your phone in hand, and watch from a small distance. The more bored you look, the better. If you want, carry a travel mug. This is a great for parties, but is tricky to do at a bar. Your acting skills will be important here.
Grassroots Gear Stencil – Again, this one is super simple, but would require enough paint for the effect. You will need to keep with you some cans of Krylon, Flat, Black. I would recommend 2-3 cans should be plenty. You will also need to find someone to help you. On the hour, every hour, you will lie down on the ground, and your helped will “outline” you with the spray paint. Depending on who you have help you, they may or may not put more paint on the stencil than focusing on the outline. Also, if they use too much paint, you’ll start getting blotchy. I’d recommend providing your helper with gloves so they don’t get covered in paint. Also, as the stencil, you should be cleaned after 3-4 tags. Paper towels should get most of it off you.
Positivity Award – This one is a bit weird. Dress up in all brown. Throughout the night, go around and let people hold you. However, don’t give yourself out too often, and only give yourself to positive people. They must take a creative photo with you. Also, if anyone calls you the positivity stick, you must correct them and let them know that you are an award, not a stick. Warning: Sometimes, this award is forgotten and left in a recipient’s vehicle, or in the side pocket of my backpack.
Jen Going to Work – This is a mix of workout clothes/business clothes. It should be super simple. The key to this costume is to keep saying that you need to leave, but never actually leaving.
Hopefully this gives you some ideas for your costume.
