When I, like most November Project members sometimes awkwardly-excitingly walk up to someone and ask them if they’ve ever heard of November Project, I often get a jolt of excitement run through me. I am beyond excited when people respond with a “No. But tell me more about it” and I’m even more excited when these people who are at first strangers let me know they have heard about a somewhat elusive November Project but have yet to make it out to a workout.
Then begins my time to shine. My time to brag. I’m not even going to cover it up a little. I brag about this free fitness movement. I brag about the #grassrootsgear. I brag about the community that is created during a 31 minute workout. I brag about the free 27 minute youtube video called Showing Up. I brag about my experience at summit. The climbing of sections throughout the Harvard stadium. I just brag. Let it be clear though, this bragging is all within a span of 90 seconds, sometimes a little bit more.
Then, begin the details. I talk about the various experiences and people that I was fortunate enough to meet while at summit. I talk about how November Project takes place across the world. I talk about doing burpees in the snow, and sprinting in the middle of February when it’s pouring rain.
We flip the switch on conversations, we avoid talking about how shitty the weather is or the heaps of snow that are on their way into town. While standing at the water cooler I do everything I can to urge the person to return back to their desk and spend the rest of their afternoon reading blog after blog from the November Project website. Maybe consider doing this today to a fellow co worker or stranger?
I urge them to go on a youtube tangent, watch the epic bounce from the Summit in Blue Mountain and Boston. Watch the most vomit-inducing video from November Project Seattle that has ever been produced. Or check out (aka stalk the shit out of) the most beautifully chilling photos of the Edmonton tribe in middle of dark ass January.
Today we ran our PR benchmarch workout. It was tough. It doesn’t get any easier. You may have had some experience at running this out and back loop or maybe this was your first time running back and forth all to touch some rock at the bottom and a carved stone at top. But today was your day it was all about YOU.
So, just like how the first rule about fight club is you don’t talk about fight club, well that actually is nothing like November Project. Talk about, talk about the 25 minutes and 1 second that you ran. Talk about how you stayed on your toes and hustled this morning. Brag about it. Be humbly vocal about your morning and brag about it even more while at the water fountain. Don’t shy away from it, let em know what they missed out on. Let em know it’s never too late.
Let em know that they too can brag about it at the water fountain next week. All they had to do is show up.
