Anatomy of a November Project MKE #milwakeupcall

dg

Christmas break is over and it’s back to school time. Here’s a little anatomy exercise for your brain (DG knows where that is… who knew we exercise our bodies and minds here at NP?!):

Milwaukee is unique in that each workout is preceded by a short motion picture, posted to Facebook, meant to be viewed as a wake-up call as a way to get jazzed. If you haven’t seen them, they’re bizarre – “I-don’t-know-what-I-just-watched-and-I’m-feeling-a-lot-of -emotions” weird. And that’s the point. Laughter combats taking yourself too seriously and people who don’t take themselves too seriously are more fun. If you’re following my logic… Milwaukee is fun.

So to improve your knowledge of NP MKE’s leaders’ antics and to improve your knowledge of important anatomy terminology (both things that you can pull out at your next cocktail party… not sure if anyone will listen but at least you’ll know what you’re talking about), I give you The Anatomy of a November Project Milwaukee #milwakeupcall:

Osteology: The bones of the #milwakeupcall. The cranium is composed of DG’s brainstorms (since he’s got a big dome), the upper extremities and thorax come from Roger’s ideas (because he’s the heart of the group and gives great hugs), and the lower extremity come from Christine’s (she’s the shortest of the three and it’s the only region that she’s able to reach). These ideas unique to each leader are the supportive structure that gives the #milwakeupcall shape.

Articulations: The joints of the #milwakeupcall are synovial, meaning that there’s some fluid that reduces friction between the bones (the liquid is sweat because #sweatyhugsforlife). If you throw enough sweat in there, specifically in the hugs, the thoughts flow a lot more smoothly.

Musculature: Obviously the muscles of the #milwakeupcall are built over time. When the videos were first being made, the muscles (i.e. creativity and general silliness – the stuff that moves these videos) were small and had wispy tendons. But now they are strong and swole (maybe from all of the Fight Club Milwaukee workouts); lots of protein built these gains, and with increased strength comes increased silliness. You may have noticed that these videos are getting more ridiculous over time, and this is because the creativity muscles are getting stronger.

Neurovasculature: The vasculature of a #milwakeupcall is made up of arteries, capillaries, and veins. The blood flow through the body is analogous to the flow of communication between leaders and the removal of wastes (carried out by the veins, in the form of deoxygenated blood) is essentially one of us showing up with a terrible video idea and it being summarily shot down. An example of the movement of blood throughout the body is a text exchange between DG, Roger, and Christine:

Christine: “Making stuff for the wake up vid. We don’t have to do this one tomorrow but if we do can you bring your Bullwinkle hat DG? And Rog do you have a blue winter hat?”

DG: “Bullwinkle hat is in the car (DG’s car is his version of a female’s purse. Anything you could ever need is there. Need a pair of purple moon boots? Probably there.). I can bring a blue hat too.”

Roger: “That’s everything we were hoping for.”

Communication is key when it comes to #milwakeupcall vasculature. And in this age of technology, communication is easy. Unless you don’t have a Facebook – then you’re pretty much stuck when trying to figure out our Friday location. Suggestion: if you don’t have a Facebook, either find a friend who has one and can alert you of our upcoming Friday location, or just get a Facebook. Please. Plus then you can find really cool pictures of yourself to enjoy on a later date.

Nerves (the “neuro” part of Neurovasculature) serve two purposes: innervating creativity muscles and receiving sensory information, giving feedback to the brain. The motor neurons that innervate muscles (and cause them to move) come from people in the tribe and current events, songs, etc. and provide inspiration that get the movies moving. The sensory neurons, sending feedback, are composed of reviews received by word of mouth, and usually sound like “this was hilarious” or “eh, it was okay”. These are all taken into account and are used the next time a video is created to make it juuust right.

Other important organs:

  1. Appendix: no one understands it. Essentially Facebook’s new update which makes uploading a video exponentially more difficult for us tech un-savvy people. No one can figure it out.
  2. Kidneys: the phone cameras. We know that they are necessary, but usually you only need one working one to function. Also these expel urine and guess what the phone cameras expel? A continuous flash for the darkness of morning. Yellow, transparent substance leaving the kidney/phone? Yup, I went there.
  3. Liver: detoxifies chemicals and toxins. Everyone knows the liver is necessary in the breakdown of alcohol. Milwaukee is home to many breweries and distilleries. Without the liver, we’d be in trouble. This is unrelated to #milwakeupcall anatomy in particular, but it’s a reminder to appreciate your liver. Thanks, liver. You da real MVP.
  4. Heart: supplies the passion for these videos and keeps us making them. Allows us to supply our muscles with oxygen, which in turn allows us to exercise and be active. Provides tangible reminders that we are alive (palpate your carotid artery), and that our heartbeat is common between tribespeople and between cities. The heartbeat that represents the life in the #milwakeupcall extends beyond the videos into the workouts and into our everyday lives.

Integumentary system: The skin, nails, and hair of the process, which is the end product you see and love. This is the surface beauty that ends up making the cut. Sometimes we have a bad hair day, and the video is not our best work. Sometimes it’s like we’re getting ready for a high school dance or for our wedding, making sure each detail is #flawless.

#flawless is our goal each and every time. And it takes all of the above systems working together to produce a beautiful exterior. If you want to see some of the magic, check out #milwakeupcall on Facebook. Some recommended videos are Happy Night-Time Day 2016, Liquid and Solid, and when I wake up (DG beating a box of poker chips and Roger dancing. Any time Roger dances = gold).

They’re all gold. You’re all gold.
