It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
No, it’s not the “Holiday Season” yet…
It’s not “Race Season” anymore…
It’s ABVEMBER!

Abvember, when we focus on our core values. Our Core, our Commitment, or Persistence, our everything-Proof-ness, for the entire month, in this most special month that our group was named after.
Last year a “core” group of NP_Chi, MKE and beyond banded together to attempt to produce quick plank, push-up, and crunch sets on the hour from 8am-5pm. The result was one of the most fun months of fitness and community in my life. We roped in strangers and co-workers, dropped wherever we were, did work, and swiftly from there the nonsense and strength increased. The proof’s in the Instagram @abvember, go see for yourself.
This month, we do it again with the same basic 3-day rotation of one of the following each day:
- Plank: 10 min
- Push-Ups: 100 reps
- Crunches: 100 reps
We want this year to be even more fun and inclusive than last year (not everyone’s workplace allows for mid-meeting planks, Jeremy) so right off the bat we’re encouraging hopefully as much adaptation as anyone could need to stay in the game.
So consider some approaches to mix and match:
- The classic: Divide the day’s total by 10 and do sets on the hour from 8am until 5pm, no matter where you are.
- The realist: Do each day all at once in one set, or two, or five, or ten- whenever/wherever is convenient
- The procrastinator: Skip a whole bunch of days in a row and beast-mode catch-up in a massive weekend session
Get creative with the exercises too: pushups on your knees, wall-pushups, spiderman push ups, jump-clap pushups, incline pushups, longer planks, side-plank, plank stacks, increase reps, V-ups, wall-sits, tick-tocks or partner push-ups with your co-workers… whatever YOU need for a challenging, fun, and fast workout. (*But an NP workout can not count for your full day’s Abvember, this should be in addition to… no double-dipping, Costanza.)
Finally, no need to be shy or secretive about this. If you’re taking part, be proud, tell your friends and co-workers and partners, and invite them to join you for a day or a set or at least cheer you on. They don’t have to commit to the whole month, waking up at 5am in the rain to run to a workout, or doing sets in a grocery store or coffee shop, just a minute out of their day to feel good about feeling good and earn a high-five.
It doesn’t matter how, just DO IT, tag your pictures and stories, get strong, and let’s have the best #abvember ever!
