A New Record

So it’s been a pretty busy week for NPHK and it’s only half way through (to be honest we’ll probably have a lie-in on Friday to compensate ;0 )

Let’s start with a bit of back ground given this is my first Blog post here (yes a round of applause is necessary and appreciated)… back in March the awesome Trevor Fox and Lisa Hopey headed back to US shores: we heard they were starting an early presidency bid but who knows, and Lloyd, Kellen and myself took over!

We had big shoes to fill… I mean literally you’re fitting two of my feet into just one of Trevor’s shoes!

And so it began… new leaders! New times… and new members were soon to follow! Hong Kong is a crazy transient place and within the 7 months of being NP we’ve already lost some key players back to their native lands! But we’re still going strong! And this week we notched it up a level to become even stronger!

It started on Monday with our first sunrise 6km. And what a day! If you’ve even been to Asia you know it can rain out here (and that’s coming from a Brit!)! But never before have I had ‘procedure for black rain storm’ written into my contract – that’s the level of rain we’re talking about (oh and in case you wondered -the procedure is to stay home from work so its never a bad day when this happens)

Hong Kong weather is unpredictable at best and so I probably shouldn’t have been surprised to wake up to torrential rain on Monday (not black rain alas so no day off)! And yet I was: surprised and pretty horrified! Whose stupid idea was it to make us weather proof???

Anyway the rules remain- no cancellations! And so I headed out in my NP Tshirt ready to face the elements only to discover the rain had miraculously stopped! And it really was a miracle because no sooner had we finished the workout than the rain started again and pretty much soaked Hong Kong all day!

And so out first 6km was a resounding success! Given that our normal workouts start at 7am and this was a Monday at 6am; I was highly impressed with the turn out!

Then on to Wednesday! We have been plugging this workout to the hilt and in a moment of madness I named it ‘we want 60’ in an attempt to get our biggest number to date! It was a big ask- 6 of our regulars were away and our average hovers below 40! BUT…. we did it!!!!!!!! We DID IT!!! A New Record and our biggest workout to date!

I’m so so proud of all of our members who’ve posted to social media, told their friends and basically made this the best thing about Hong Kong! It was a great morning- the weather was kind, there were hugs and high fives a plenty and everyone worked their asses off! I’m gonna be buzzing off this all week!

So now what? Well rumour has it that one of the leaders will get an NP tattoo if the tribe reaches 70… so watch this space!!!
