Wearing Your Mask Outside
Last week, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) published a new set of recommendations for vaccinated and unvaccinated attendees of outdoor events and the need for masks in those settings. As expected, many NP members in cities that are meeting in person reached out to their Co-leaders to figure out what that means for them and their communities. The CDC guidelines are pretty vague so our approach is to be cautious and treat all November Project workouts as if they are “crowded outdoor events”. Per CDC guidelines, we’re encouraging all members, vaccinated or not, to wear masks at the workouts when social distancing is not possible. For more information, please visit this blog post.
National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women
Native Women Running was ahead of the curve with virtual activation, creating a virtual run in honor of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in May 2019. This May marks the 3rd annual MMIW Virtual Event, held May 5-8, 2021. Run, walk, or hike at any time, distance, place, or pace. Participants are asked to wear red in honor of MMIW Day, as the color red has, historically, been associated with violence and anger. Native Women Running wishes to use the color red in remembrance of these women’s lives because they matter. Get more info/Register here. Check out the event Facebook page here – Lastly, as you join in and participate, please consider using the below hashtags and posting about this event to help raise awareness of this organization and the attention on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. #native_women_running #nativewomenrunning #redearthrunner
DEI Board Committee
The November Project Board of Directors is putting together a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Board Committee. The purpose of the committee is two-fold:
1. Review and suggest edits of public statements that NP will be sharing via social media, email, blog, etc in response to instances of racism, injustices, and violence towards marginalized people.
2. Create an education strategy on how to use NP’s public-facing platforms (webinars, workshops, documents, etc) to engage members and Co-leaders in these DEI efforts.
We’ll be sharing more information about the work that will be coming out of this committee in months to come.
