One Bite at a Time (Ottawa)

So, when was the last time that you did 100 of something? Note: binging 100 episodes of The Office definitely counts. Furthermore, when did you last do 8×100 of something?! This morning, NP Atlanta challenged us with the following:

100 squats or jump squats
100 push-ups
100 sit-ups
100 jumping jacks
100 lunges or jump lunges
100 atomics
100 mountain climbers
100 penguins

Not sure about you, but seeing that list in writing at 6:29 initially seemed a touch daunting to us (and due to slightly masochistic tendencies, oddly exciting as well). And yet, come 7:00 that list became a sense of accomplishment. Whether your strategy was to get through 100 exercises in a row, break them down into smaller sets, or casually move off screen to take a break (all totally legit action plans), we are glad that you showed up this morning. And more importantly, hopefully you are too.

Sometimes looking at the full list or the big picture can feel overwhelming. Waking up in the morning and thinking of everything you need to get done that day… seeing the impressively large stack of dirty dishes in your kitchen… meeting a deadline… shovelling the driveway… whatever it is, there are moments when the mountain just feels insurmountable. When moving off screen to avoid the issue isn’t an option, it can be hard to imagine how we’ll ever get all those things done, all those dishes clean, all that work finished, or all that snow shovelled (ESPECIALLY WHEN THE PLOW COMES BY RIGHT AFTER YOU FINISHED SHOVELLING AND MAKES YOU QUESTION LIFE AND THE MEANING OF OUR EXISTENCE).

In these moments, perhaps it is important to remember that we don’t always need to figure out how to get to the top of the mountain. We just need to focus on taking the first step. We just need to check one thing off the list (hint: writing “make to do list” on your list and then checking it off leads to an immediate sense of accomplishment). And that’s the thing about doing 100 squats. We don’t have to do 100. We just have to do one. At a time. It’s like eating an elephant, right? Just one bite at a time (NB: no animals were harmed in the writing of this blog post).

Thank you for sharing your morning with us. We hope you have a great day. And then 99 more after today.

Solefully,
Rebecca & Becca
