Just Show Up… Then Crush Everything (NOLA)

This week, we got to bring on a third co-leader. He needed no introduction. People guessed it before we even announced it. It was meant to be. And it’s my pleasure to stand up there next to him now. So without further ado, here is your insight into some newest co-leader, Joseph Morin.

No fun being had.

I am a person who is interested in many things but tends to stay in my own lane. It’s much safer that way. I step out of my comfort zone ONE FUCKING TIME and then all of sudden I’m being introduced as a Co-Leader of November Project New Orleans.

How?

You start by just showing up. Well first have a few several drinks at Saints game and let your guard down. Then you run into Mia Fredricks and get asked to join her and her “workout group” at 6 am. HAHAHAHAHA. 6am start time? No thanks. Running? Not unless I’m being chased. Hanging out with a bunch of strangers? I have my own friends. NOTHING about her invite interested me so OF COURSE I said yes. Best mistake ever.

It’s early. I’m tired. It’s humid. I’m socially awkward. Why am I here? Why are these people so energetic? Why are we jumping around like fools? Why is a stranger hugging me? Why do they give out so many high fives? Why are they cheering me on when they don’t even know me? Why are we doing things that kids in school probably do? All of these questions that were unanswered but I still knew one thing. I’ll see y’all next week because  this is the most amazing thing I’ve ever done.

It took one workout for me to find my place. My friends. My family. My tribe. I wanted to be a part of that number. All of the energy that they bring for every workout, I wanted to soak it in. So I did. I joined them. Slowly at first. Then I decided I needed more. I made it so I could attend every workout. I made it a point to push harder at the workouts. Push harder at making new friends. Push harder at bringing that energy. Over time I could see myself growing as a person, a friend, a runner, a leader. This “workout group” took me out of my comfort zone and made me stronger.

A year ago I was afraid to introduce myself to strangers. Today I stood in front of 80 of the greatest humans on earth and led them for 45 minutes through the final workout of NPinferNO. 5 days of intense workouts (53 people showed up every day. HOLY SHIT!!) and they still let a rookie lead them on the last day. They listened, they CRUSHED the workout, and they celebrated one hell of a week. It was one of the best moments of my life. The best part is I get to do it next week and for many more weeks after that. I can’t wait to see how much more this tribe grows. How much more this tribe makes me grow. With Mia and Glenn by my side there is no stopping us.

This is no “workout group”.

This is November Project and we’re taking over the world.

Y’all good?

-Joseph

  1. Before you were co leader you ended up being a partner in a few workouts and you made a great team mate. Very patient and helpful with my slow and not as fit self. Glad they chose you to be co leader. You are going to crush it!
