Your mother… what? (Boston 9.21.18)

Your Mother Sucks Balls.  No…this isn’t our best attempt to start a fight or to practice our trash talk with NP_DC.  We’re not really talking about your mother, or anyone’s mother.  It’s really really not what it sounds like.  It’s an acronym: YMSB.  And that phrase is way more inappropriate memorable than the list of street names that the acronym actually stands for.  York, Mason, Short, Beacon.

The workout we did today is a gradually longer and longer loop down the front side of Summit Ave, with the first loop made by crossing at York and then heading back up to the crosswalk at the top of the hill.  The second loop is made by crossing at Mason Terrace and back up…and there’s a loop for Short St. as well, before the final loop at Beacon St.  The sequence starts over again with York and continues until time is called.

There’s something pretty great about running hills on Summit Ave, but not having to run the whole hill all at once.  You gradually build into it and get way more practice on some of those parts of the hill that can get tricky to fight through mentally, so it’s good to get more repetitions and more practice there.  It’s a rather relevant lesson for life too, if you think about it.  Sometimes the biggest challenges can be taken on in smaller parts, and with some practice and confidence building, we can tackle the big shit without so much fear and hesitation.

And at the end of the day–one of the most powerful moments of this Friday morning on the hills was when we asked the tribe to raise their hand if at least one single person had made a difference for them during the workout.  Either by encouraging you, motivating you, or in anyway making a positive influence on you.  Every. Single. Hand. went up. We are impacted, influenced, motivated, changed, and cultivated by the tribe and it’s so important to remember that every day.

This is exactly why the #NPplus1 challenge is so important.

We can make a difference for one single person by inviting them to come to the workout on Wednesday Sept 26th.  We can positively impact their lives by giving them the opening to the whole darn tribe, to this great big awesome community that only makes each of us better.  Keep recruiting and make sure on Wed you have your plus 1.
