That’s a wrap for NP_LAX 2017! For the last workout of the year, we ended with Baxter – one of the toughest hills in LA (and any US city…you can reference Google if you don’t believe us) and then threw in a burnout because the hill wasn’t enough.

To be honest, Baxter was the perfect way to end the year. It is one of the hardest workouts that we have and doesn’t even pretend to be subtle about kicking our asses. 2017 was similar in a lot of ways. We started the year out with #homesweetroam, first spending January at the Observatory and while things went well, we weren’t ready to commit just yet. In February we checked out UCLA, but between parking issues and a lack of enthusiasm from the tribe, it never felt like home. March lead us to Grand Park in DTLA, but parking was even worse, so we nixed that idea for a weekly location. Then in April we headed back to the Observatory. The Observatory offered plenty of parking, a variety of workout options, incredible sunrises, and also happens to be one of the most iconic locations in LA. Not having a “home” location was tough on the tribe and we saw attendance fluctuate, so it just made sense to make a commitment to the Griffith Observatory.

In addition to #homesweetroam, the tribe was faced with 4 different changes in leadership. Put more simply, a lot of shit kept changing. In speaking with Kait today, I said that I’m happy that our tribe feels like a family again. I noticed a shift in our tribe’s dynamic during #hillvember aka 5 weeks straight of hills twice a week. At the time I was just looking for a way to challenge everyone and it also added a # for #content purposes. Over those 5 weeks not only did the tribe eat #hillsforbreakfast like Olympians devour Wheaties, but the magic started coming back. Every week there were more first timers, more smiles, more high fives, and more fun was had! Finally December came. Kait stepped into her role of co-leader seamlessly and the tribe was firing on all cylinders. Everyone was crushing the workouts that we handed to them – from hills to Griffith’s trails, we noticed it all. Maybe most importantly, we noticed the increased enthusiasm for this community.
So a new year starts on Monday and we have some big ideas in store for 2018. The tribe is strong and we know that this is going to be an awesome year.

NP Photo contest: Gotta say that so far our #content game hasn’t been up to our normal standards. Contest rules are here Photo Contest . The other 44 tribes are trying to take our position at the top. Let’s show them how LA handles Insta!
