It was a beautiful fall day in Nepal’s Khumbu Glacier Valley on October 6th, 2017. Just starting our hike south from Gorak Shep around 10am (the last teahouse settlement before reaching Mount Everest Base Camp), I came across a familiar blue object wrapped around the head of a female. This blue object was a November Project Buff.
Knowing the inevitable awkwardness in my my near future, I raise my fist in the air (with my blue NP buff wrapped twice around my wrist) and shout to the approaching female, “WE ARE FAMILY!”. After a brief moment of confusion and her focus not on tripping over the rocks/boulders in front of her, she looks up to study the situation.
“Hi I’m Vic and I believe we both belong to November Project”. I point to her head and my wrist and mention “I have the same buff”. At this point she realized why she was stopped. We hug it out. I learn her name is Molly and she is from Boston NP. We have another hiker take our picture with her device as we exchange some trekking knowledge about the area. Two mins later, we go our separate ways.
I’m almost certain I remembered her information correctly, but then again we are at 17,000ft and I was 14 days in the trek…my brain might have not been the sharpest. I’ve done some searching on FB and Instagram, but I have not been able to find her. Can you assist in finding this NP member? I can’t imagine that many people from NP were hiking to Everest Base Camp this season.
P.S. Attached is a couple pics with my NP Buff. The one with all the snow on it is Everest!
