Pumpkin Monday

In the world of free fitness that builds community just as much as it builds biceps and strong quads, pumpkin-themed workouts right around Halloween are pretty much a dime-a-dozen.  Just see photos from other NP tribes like this

Boston never tries to outshine other tribes because we are the #mothership.  We just aim to have really fun, and awesomely ch So why not?

It may have been dark and dirty this morning at our Destination Deck, but we managed to dial up the fitness with the weight of pumpkins, the power of partners, and the madness of mud.  See?

But, today on Pumpkin Monday, there could be lots of reasons you picked to not show up.

  1. I didn’t have a pumpkin
  2. I’m morally opposed to using pumpkins for fitness
  3. I was afraid my pumpkin would look better than me in the workout photos
  4. I was afraid of what the Boston co-leaders would tell me to do with my pumpkin
  5. My pumpkin just couldn’t get out of its cozy bed to get up this morning
  6. My pumpkin is a decendent of the wicked witch of the west and would melt in the rain
  7. I thought my pumpkin was too big/small/oddly-shaped
  8. I made my pumpkin into pie
  9. I couldn’t figure out how to run with a pumpkin
  10. I couldn’t come up with a better excuse and I just stayed in bed.

Those reasons excuses for not showing up this morning aren’t any better than the ones about the rain you listened to all night long, the mud you were sure would get on your pretty running shoes, how far away the workout was from your house, or whether the workout would be worth your time to get there and home again.  None of those excuses are really good enough to keep us in bed or at home Monday after Monday.

The bottom line is that this thing is called NOVEMBER Project for a reason.  Because late in October our motivation starts to SUCK.  Our desire to get up when it’s dark, to be outside in the elements, and to work hard to get our workouts done just isn’t the same as in the glorious months of June and July.  So, use a pumpkin to motivate you and make you curious about what the hell we can do to make fitness with a pumpkin.  Use a costume* to motivate you and make you want to figure out what the hell everyone else decided to do with that weirdly-weird theme of “multiples.” Use an old friend or a NEW friend to motivate you and make you want to show up because you know they are expecting you to be there.  Take a look in the mirror–you know if you need to #verbal to somebody and commit to going.  Yeah, go ahead and do it for us, but also do it for YOU.

Let’s make NOVEMBER hot and hyped and hilarious and fitness that is hard as fuck.  We all need the push, we need the challenge, we need the community of fellow athletes, and we need to keep moving.

Let’s keep moving, and keep changing the world one Monday at a time.

*Wednesday’s workout at the stadium is COSTUME themed and we’re taking YEARBOOK PHOTOS too.  Get your face in the album, and get your fitness on the stairs.
